  The Works album review
As the inaugural single release from the album, ‘Radio Ga Ga’ didn’t fill me with much confidence, but on the plus side, the Brain May penned B-side is a real belter and worth purchasing for that alone.
The middle eight is an inspiring work of genius, building on a wave of Freddie’s masterful piano and Brian’s tasteful, serpentine guitar lines, creating an extravagant tour de force; heralding one of Brian’s finest, most sensitive guitar solos.
On the plus side, the band give their all, Brian’s guitar work is raunchy and melodic, Roger’s drumming remains potent but has unfortunately lost its characteristic edge and John’s bass playing is at its inventive best and really emphasises the mood of the compositions.

The Works (Queen album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Works is a rock album by English band Queen released in 1984.
Much had changed in the music world since their previous album "Hot Space", which was something of a commercial failure and a poorly received album by many fans.
It was the band's first album for EMI worldwide after the band nullified its recording deal with Elektra for the US, Canada, Australia and Japan and signed with EMI worldwide(they were on EMI since day one in Europe) and EMI's US affiliate Capitol Records in the US and Canada.

The Works : Queen Discography / Queen Album : shanemcdonald.org
The album 'The Works' was released 2 years after the poorly received 'Hot Space' but there were still tension in the Queen camp.
They worked my harder on this album, but this also caused friction, as they poured over the tuning of individual notes, Brian was a perfectionist, Roger just wanted to get things done and didn't want to know the difference between F and Fadd9 (see Radio Ga Ga).
There are a few tracks in the album which I consider to be my favourites, and this has to be one of Queens best albums of the 80's along with 'A Kind of Magic'.

The Daily Vault Album Reviews : The Works
Probably one of the best-known songs on this album is "Radio Ga Ga," the band's tribute to the original "talking box" that was in the midst of facing its biggest challenge - the music video.
The album's original closer, "Is This The World We Created...?", is one of the most beautiful songs the band ever wrote, with Brian May providing just the right touch on acoustic guitar.
Fact was, Queen was on a roll with this album, and I wish they had added some more songs to it to keep the momentum going.

 The Works
This album, Queen is not ready to fully get away from the bloody synth-pop (...remember, this album has such Queen staples as "Radio Ga Ga" and "I Want to Break Free"...) but there's also all sorts of other things in the album.
But this is a fun band (and a fun album!), and there are a lot of good, clean, fun Queen songs on here.
The song is a cross between the synth-pop incarnation of Queen and the classic incarnation of Queen.

 Queen Network - The Works
It was, as a matter of fact, a jam session probably too special to remain hidden in a drawer somewhere in Brian's house and he had the good idea of publishing those tracks.
From its name, The Works, through songs like this, the already mentioned Metropolis footage of Radio Ga Ga's video, mechanic wheels on the back cover, to the use of these on stage during The Works tour, this album is pretty much a conceptual one.
All in all, The Works is another excellent album that shows Queen's return to their traditional style not without bringing us new musical proposals at the same time.

The Works - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Works was to be the first entirely 3D computer animated film, created by the Computer Graphics Lab, but was never completed.
The different elements influenced each other, the centre of all the work improved and evolved as new stuff was added and the whole thing was starting to take form and the progress continued as the shape of the project became clearer and more visible.
Many of those who had been working on it were hired by others interested in CGI-animated movies, and the crew took their ideas, inventions and whatever else they had developed to new places, where the technology continued to evolve in relation to other projects.

 THE WORKS
However, it was Roger's song, and he knew what he was doing on the last album, so maybe Queen did have some faith.
One of those instant pick-me-up songs that is in abundance on this album.
There is a general trend on this album for the quality to get progressively better on this one, though, starting off with standard pop, with an intermediate middle section (barring It's A Hard Life, of course), before the last three songs are well above Queen's average.

Francie Conway with The Works, The Green Album   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The Green Album is Francie Conway's fifth CD with The Works, a group composed of Conway on 12-string guitar and lead vocals, percussionist Peter Lundgren and Siard de Jong on violin, bouzouki and whistles.
The songs on the CD were all written by Conway and some of them remind me strongly of a mid-80s album by George Harrison of which my ex-husband was exceedingly fond, although I can't seem to bring the title to mind.
Although The Green Album has its fun songs, it also has a subtle theme running through it in such tracks as "Don't Take It For Granted," "Midsummer Sun," "Almost Human" and "Hit by a Hurricane," that whether we're discussing pollution or crime, we have to be more careful with the world.

Queen : The Works (Bonus Tracks) - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Following the disappointing commercial performance of the dance-oriented Hot Space in 1982, Queen took 1983 off to get refocused and work on a follow-up that would put the band back on track.
While the songwriting had definitely improved on the resulting The Works in 1984, the album sonically lacked the punch of such earlier releases as News of the World and The Game (strangely, Hot Space even had a better overall sound).
Other highlights included the '50s-sounding "Man on the Prowl," the electronic experiment "Machines," the thunderous "Tear It Up," and a touching acoustic ballad, "Is This the World We Created...?" Perhaps with a more straight-ahead production (and a U.S. tour), The Works would have landed Queen back on the top of the charts stateside.
