Schopenhauer's The World as Will and Idea
According to Schopenhauer, the world is the will insofar as all ideas of the world manifest the will.
Idea as motive is not a necessary condition for the activity of the will.
Schopenhauer explains that the will cannot properly be defined as a necessary cause of its manifestations in the phenomenal world, because it is not governed by the principle of sufficient reason.

Yasuo Kamata: Platonic Idea and the World of Perception in Schopenhauer
If imagination is the will's effect on the faculty of representation, then indeed the will is essentially participating in the origin and maintenance of the Platonic Idea (the generally acknowledged phantasm), though the will insofar as it is considered as the condition of the possibility of representation.
Secondly, we have described the world as representation with respect to the condition of the possibility of the original-synthetic unity of the concrete-particular clear representation as the interaction of the Platonic Idea as archetypical phantasm and the particular representation.
Thirdly, the will could be sketched as the condition of the possibility of the Platonic idea and insofar as the condition of the possibility of the achieved unity of the world as representation.

They were written "for gentlemen by gentlemen" in a world wherein universal education was unthought of, and where the institutions of modern democracy with universal suffrage, so necessary in many respects, so difficult and dangerous in their working, had still to appear.
As the core of such an institution would be a world synthesis of bibliography and documentation with the indexed archives of the world.
In the hands of competent editors, educational directors and teachers, these condensations and abstracts incorporated in the world educational system, will supply the humanity of the days before us, with a common understanding and the conception of a common purpose and of a commonweal such as now we hardly dare dream of.

Josiah Royce's The World and the Individual
An idea is an expression of a purpose in the mind of the subject.
Thus, even if it is assumed that an idea of an object is caused by the object, this does not imply that the object or the idea are real, because their reality is not established by their causal connection.
Royce’s concept of the world as an expression of will is similar in some aspects to Schopenhauer's concept of the world as a representation of the will.

That is to say, he finds himself in the world as an individual whose knowledge, which is the essential basis of the whole world as idea, is yet ever communicated through the medium of the body, whose sensations are the starting-point of the understanding of that world.
That aid is will, which alone furnishes the key to the riddle of himself, solves the problem of his own existence and reveals to him the inner structure and significance of his being, his action and his movements.
Will is the thing-in-itself, the essence of the world.

I will more specifically show how the new economy, with its network supported flow of information and money, in a fundamental way not only changes the distribution and trade of books, but also in a rather fundamental way alters the ways book content is produced and, ultimately, changes the nature of the book itself.
This situation will reduce the interests of both consumers and publishers and thus slow down the diffusion of e-books, largely because the number of available titles will grow slowly and consumers will not have easy access to all titles at any given moment.
Many of these are world leaders; their strategic moves into the e-book business are part of larger plans to strengthen their dominant positions in the digital content delivery infrastructures of the world.

This will is the inner nature of each experiencing being and assumes in time and space the appearance of the body, which is an idea.
Accordingly existence is the expression of an insatiable, pervasive, will generating a world that features such negatives as conflict and suffering, senselessness, and futility as well as many positives.

The whole world consumes about 600,000,000 tons of coal a year, and to this must be added the consumption of oxygen by wood and other vegetable substances which raises the equivalent coal consumption of the world to not less than 1,000,000,000 tons a year.

For the idea of free will is a psychological or theological one and cannot be brought into a realm like physics with which it has nothing to do at all.
If perfect freedom of the will is impossible, at least that man is nearest to it who acts entirely from his innermost being, not from passional drive, emotional pressure, or physical necessity, who is guided by wisdom, not enslaved by the ego's desires or the animal's ignorance.
The soul is, in respect to her three lowest faculties, which belong to the World Order, rigidly conditioned: yet in the higher self is as free as self-existence can make it; and the soul will therefore be free exactly according as to whether she identifies herself with her higher or lower faculties.

It is remarkable, that once an idea like that of Hedonism becomes thoroughly appropriated by one or two philosophers, it is almost certain to get buried and completely hidden from the view of the lay-excursionist into philosophy, thanks to the mountain of words with which those who are supposed to elucidate it, systematically smother it.
