		At least three genera of wrens (Campylorhynchus, Cinnycerthia, and Cyphorhinus; follow this link for a summary of evidence for cooperative breeding in wrens) show good evidence for the occurrence of cooperative breeding in one or more species, but relationships among these genera were unknown.

		Sunday was a shortened banding day so that we could all attend Terry's wonderful slide lecture program at our nature center on the biodiversity of Kenya and Tanzania that he has encountered during eight separate wildlife tours he has led there.
		A total of 89 birds of 20 species was banded today, but, with no new species banded, we still have not yet cracked the 100 species barrier (our 100th species had been banded by the end of September last fall).
		Even in an orange tail banded juvenile, if a rectrix is lost accidentally and replaced when the bird is no longer feeding on (or being fed) the honeysuckle fruits, the replacement feather will have the normal yellow coloration.

	Rouge River Bird Observatory Latest Bird Sightings
		As with every Purple Finch we've ever banded (not a lot, a few a year), it was a female-plumaged bird.
		Highlights were a second Winter Wren, and a late Wood Thrush on 14 October.

		The record for longevity for Carolina Wrens according to the Bird Banding Laboratory is six years and two months.
		This wren banded in 1997 was recaptured on 11 May, 2005, an age of at least seven years nine months.

	Rouge River Bird Observatory Latest Bird Sightings
		Banding results 22 to 26 October: 4 days, 189 birds (172 new, 17 recaps) of 22 species.
		We have also seen a marked increase in cardinals lately; today we banded a male that was rather startling colored.

		Aside from our banding numbers and captures of phenomenal regional rarities in the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Northern Parula, one the other main highlights this year was Paul Levesque's new Northern Saw-whet Owl project.

		After 72 days of banding, we have banded 2907 birds of 59 species at a rate of ~40 birds banded/day (this banding total is 33% above 5-year average for same period!).
		The banding highlights are: an immature female Northern Harrier banded on July 30 (only the third ever banded at RPBO, and first since 1996), a Pileated Woodpecker on August 28, and our first banding records for both Belted Kingfisher (2 birds!) on August 16 and Red Crossbill on August 17 (also 2 birds!).
		After 11 days of banding in July, we banded 358 birds of 36 species, and our average capture/day rate was much higher than the norm (32.5 birds banded/day vs. long term average of 24; for comparison, in 2002 our July average was 28).

		There is no information in his report suggesting whether it could be the Appalachian race "Thryomanes bewickii altus".
		Ken Rosenberg wrote in "Winging It" 11(6):9 that this race has undergone a precipitous population decline east of the Mississippi River and there have been no sightings during the last ten years.
		This may be the first confirmed sighting in several decades and perhaps the first bird banding in WV., unless Dr. Bibbee banded Bewick's wrens for his dissertation.

		Our first Band-backed Wrens forage in the epiphytes and a male Mountain Trogon is just as magnificent as any other member of this family.
