Topic: Theatre (warfare)

Talk:Theatre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
From a lot of internet discussion with American theatre professionals, I have seen a wide and quite vehement support that the correct american spelling for live theatre is "re", and that "theater" implies cinema and burlesque only, and is used with negative connotations.
Theater → Theatre — As in the recent Grey-move, "theatre" is accepted in both U.S. and Commonweath English, whereas theater is an accepted spelling only in the U.S. It was suggested to split the article into "Theatre" for the art and a new article "Theatre building" for the building.
From what I gather, "theatre" is not only the international spelling (for art and bldg), but also the spelling used by theatre professionals in the US for their art and "theater" for the actual structure, even though "theatre" is sometimes used in the names of some theatre bldgs in the US.

Fourth Generation Warfare: Is It Coming Live To A Theatre Near You?
Called the "Fourth Generation Warfare" doctrine, it was laid out and codified in 1989 by a handful of American military officers and a civilian military adviser to a U.S. senator.
According to these tacticians, "First-generation warfare reflects tactics of the era of the smoothbore musket -- the tactics of line and column." This, the authors explained, was dictated by technology, tradition and the training levels of conscripts.
Sympathy for the United States would be inconsistent with the objectives of fourth-generation warfare that involve causing civilian casualties while simultaneously engendering sympathy for the cause of the aggressor organization so as to get the targeted people to blame their own leaders for allowing the continuing attacks.

Theatre Arts Magazine*, published by Sheldon Cheney, begins to introduce the new and unusual to theatrical producers, encouraging the break from realism to expressionism,* especially in settings and costume design.
His works tend to be dark, a 'theatre of cruelty*', where discordant noises, a "vibrating, shredded" lighting, and oddly positioned acting areas will act directly on the senses and purge people of their more destructive tendencies.

Artists who live in societies in which free thought and ideas are considered dangerous have found ingenious ways to make meaningful theatre that speaks to the hopes and dreams of the people.
As a result, theatre artists in the U.S. are mostly college educated, middle class kids who don't feel that the alternative to venting their lives in artistic expression is to go to jail.
Maybe these kinds of urban warfare games are a secret cry for the reinstitution of the draft, a kind of need for people to feel like their lives are meaningful, that they are risking something for the good of the nation.

Theatre’s reaction to the insensitivity and brutal meaninglessness of war became implanted in the both the message, and theme of the representative style, in which the pieces were written.
His use of a narrator broke the imaginary fourth wall of the theatre and made the audience doubly aware of the storytelling aspect found in theatre.
As explained before, Samuel Beckett’s was one of the lead dramatists working in “The Theatre of the Absurd.” He attempted to show the meaninglessness of ‘truth’ and the unproved necessity of society, religion, and government.

Henry V - William Shakespeare   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-12)
Nicholas Hytner’s modern staging of Henry V at the Royal National Theatre in London transfers Shakespeare’s patriotic myth to the gritty realistic theatre of modern warfare and in doing so creates acute parallels to the recent invasion of Iraq.
Hytner’s most effective comment on the televised propaganda of recent months is conveyed through the short Victory video which concludes the warfare scenes – flags, shots of Henry and his victorious army, a hymn from a children’s choir and an aggressive thanksgiving prayer to God.
The warfare is limited to the field, whereas contemporary conflicts would also involve the use of air and sea power and, of course, King Henry leads his army into battle; a modern King (let alone a President or Prime Minister) would not do so.

Low-intensity warfare was a kind of warfare that the United States could maintain over years in a specific Third World country at relatively low cost, without arousing public attention or concern.
Low-intensity warfare concepts are primarily designed for actions in the Third World and are most often intended to govern essentially unilateral U.S. operations (possibly in collaboration with the government of the country concerned).
