The Cochin Devaswom Board (CDB) president, M. Krishnanunny, has said that steps will be taken soon for the beautification of the Thekkinkadu Maidan which is located in the centre of the city.
6 crores for the beautification of the Thekkinkadu Maidan which is under the custody of the CDB.
The Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, who is also the MLA of Thrissur has convened a meeting at his Chamber on March 22 to discuss the details of the beautification projects.

Even though the Thekkinkadu Maidan wore a rather gloomy look in the morning with only limited Pooram fans turning up to watch the cultural extravaganza, the flow of people started picking up by noon.
The maidan became literally a sea of humanity when `kudamattam' (exchange of parasoles atop caparisoned elephants), which is the most exciting event of the Pooram, began at about 5 p.m.
Finally it was decided to `destroy' the crackers at the maidan itself during early evening hours.

Thrissur Pooram, the most colorful temple festival of Kerala is held at Thrissur in the Malayalam month of Medom (April-May).
This two-century-old festival was introduced by the ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Kochi, Shaktan Thampuran, at the Thekkinkadu Maidan.
