INTRODUCTION TO THELEMA, BY THE U.S. GRAND LODGE OF THE ORDO TEMPLI ORIENTIS
Thelemites are expected to interpret the book for themselves, based on Crowley's commentaries and other writings; but are enjoined from promoting their personal interpretations to others.
Not every Thelemite utilizes all the practices available, there is considerable room for each individual practitioner to choose practices which are suitable to his or her individual needs.
Thelemites often take mystic names or "magical mottoes" for themselves as a sign of commitment; and customarily greet each other with the phrase, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law"; to which the customary response is, "Love is the law, love under will".

Thelemites are not part of a culture per se and identification *as* a Thelemite is more likely an indication of fraud than of the reality.
in identifying the Thelemite *as* special and refraining from such an identification, there is a built-in arrogance-diffuser.

That most do not choose to exercise this freedom should not therefore be taken as an excuse to oppress them, nor should the fact that very few now manage to advance all the way necessarily be taken as the inevitable and eternal condition of humankind.

The notion of absolute freedom for an individual to follow his or her True Will is a cherished one among Thelemites.
This philosophy also recognizes that the main task of an individual setting out on the path of Thelema is to first discover his or her True Will, giving methods of self-exploration such as magick great importance.
Of course, with the emphasis on freedom and individuality inherent in Thelema, the beliefs of any given Thelemite are likely to differ from those of any other.

It is a hard for a female Thelemite to admit to this, but there is nothing very impressive about the diaries of  some of Crowley’s “Scarlet Women.” I have found, through the diaries that I have read, that they were very shallow, containing mostly accounts of what A.C. did during a certain period of time.
Nevertheless, there are indeed several female Thelemites who have made a contribution to Thelema.
Jane Wolfe is definitely one very important example, a woman who was not “feminine” looking enough to fit within the standards of a Lodge “goddess.” However, there aren’t enough documents circulating that speak of her experience as a female Thelemite that could assist many of us females who are in the Path.

In broadest terms a Thelemite, like all sincere spiritual seekers, is striving to discover the meaning to his or her own existence (in astronomical terms what is our true orbit or trajectory in life).
The terms Thelema and Thelemite are usually used in reference to the work of Aleister Crowley, who in the first half of the twentieth century was a zealous proponent of discovering ones Will and then doing it.
Obviously anyone in the world has discovered their Will and is proceeding to execute it is technically a Thelemite no matter what their belief system may be – even if they’ve never heard of Aleister Crowley or the word Thelema.
