Themisto (IPA: /θəˈmɪstoʊ/, the-mis'-toe, Greek Θεμιστώ) (Jupiter XVIII) is a moon of Jupiter.
In 2002 it was officially named after Themisto, a lover of Zeus (Jupiter) in Greek mythology.
Themisto's orbit is unusual, as it orbits about midway between the Galilean moons and the first group of prograde irregulars.

There Athamas 1 married his third wife Themisto 2 (daughter of King Hypseus 1 of the LAPITHS, son of the river god Peneus), and had children by her.
Themisto 2 is daughter of Hypseus 1 by a Nymph.
Themisto 2, they say, hid in the palace and, deceived by a nurse who had put the wrong garments on the children, killed her own sons instead of killing Ino's.

The ninth moon of Jupiter; a small, irregular moon that orbits inside, and does not belong to, the two main dynamical clusters of jovian irregular moons; its discovery was announced in 2000 by Scott Sheppard, David Jewitt, Yan Fernandez, and Eugene Magnier.
Themisto has a prograde (direct) orbit with an orbital radius of approximately 100 Jupiter radii and an inclination of 43°.
It is also known as S/2000 J1 and Jupiter XVIII.
