The lateral eminence consists of the Brachioradialis and the Extensores carpi radiales longus and brevis, and descends from the lateral supracondylar ridge in the direction of the styloid process of the radius.
The medial eminence comprises the Extensor digitorum communis, Extensor digiti quinti proprius, and the Extensor carpi ulnaris; it begins at the lateral epicondyle of the humerus as a tapering mass which is separated above from the Anconæus by a well-marked furrow, and below from the Pronator teres and Flexor group by the ulnar furrow.
The muscles of the hand are principally concerned, as regards surface form, in producing the thenar and hypothenar eminences, and cannot be individually distinguished; the thenar eminence, on the radial side, is larger and rounder than the hypothenar, which is a long narrow elevation along the ulnar side of the palm.

The thenar eminence is the body of muscle on the palm of the human hand just beneath the thumb.
It is not in the thenar group of muscles however, so is supplied by the ulnar nerve.

The surgeon noted at the end of November 1991 that the radial forearm flap of the thenar eminence looked good and that the veteran was moving his hand well.

It would be the Thenar Line, also described (very erroneously indeed) as the Line of Life, which runs from a point midway along the radial side of the palm in a circular course toward the wrist and which defines the territory, or perimeters, of the Thenar Eminence.
Where the Thenar Line restricts the dimensions of the Thenar Eminence, but moreso where the Thenar Eminence appears flat and of deficient volume, so too would there be a powerful influence restricting the warmth and empathy which the individual would invest in others.
The Hypothenar Eminence describes the individual's inner world environment and defines the emotional implications for that individual which each of his, or her, experiences may inspire.

Unlike the thenar muscles, which are innervated by the recurrent branch of the medial nerve, the adductor pollicis is innervated by the deep branch of the ulnar nerve.
