City Pages - Movies - Theodora Goes Wild
In her conservative hometown, Theodora Lynn is an upstanding premature spinster, singing at church and attending meetings of the ladies' literary society--a group of gossipy old tight-asses in funny hats.
But in her secret life, she is Caroline Adams, author of a trashy best-selling novel, which the ladies' literary society has just banned from serialization in the local paper.
It may have mostly to do with actress Irene Dunne (38 years old when the film came out), who seems to identify with her character's plight and slides with gusto between good-girl and naughty-girl roles.
