Concludes: Theology, which is now beginning to develop freely in our country again, enjoys the environment it needs to develop, as such, a theology of the church which kill be the mediator of Christ's liberation to our nations, and in this sense to be a theology of liberation.
Theology (so they say) cannot relay to us revealed truth, for there is no such thing; it can only describe, correlate, interpret, and criticize or justify intuitions and guesses about God that are found in the churches; and it is high time that, by facing this fact realistically, we cut theology down to size.
The aim of this chapter is to challenge the pacifist tradition with the hermeneutical contributions of liberation theology and to similarly challenge liberation theology with the hermeneutical contributions of the Anabaptist pacifist tradition.

Baptist theology teaches that the consequence of human sin is condemnation to eternal death in hell.
In 1616, Henry Jacob led a group of Puritans in England with a Calvinist theology to form a congregational church that would eventually become the Particular Baptists in 1638 under John Spilsbury.
Other Baptists accept the Protestant label as a demographic concept that describes churches who share similar theologies of sola scriptura, sola fide, the priesthood of all believers and other positions that Luther, Calvin and traditional reformers held in contrast to the Roman Catholic Church in the 1500s.

 Anabaptist Theology
The question which is foremost in the present endeavor of formulating this "implied" theology of the Anabaptists is whether or not Anabaptists accepted by and large the theology of the Protestant Reformers (Luther or Zwingli, hardly Calvin), adding in addition only those aspects otherwise neglected.
The Anabaptist, however, is prepared to accept it, what was aptly called the "theology of martyrdom," meaning the expectation of the cross for the disciple -- "cross," not as a marital event, but as a sign of one's own stand, challenging the world which will always contradict the path of Christ and his disciples.
The idea of a suffering church is not really a "theology" in the strict sense of the word, just as the idea of "discipleship" is not theology proper (though part of it).

Some groups, such as Anglicans and Old-Catholics, consider the two dominical sacraments of the Gospel, Baptism and the Eucharist, to be the "precepted, primary, and principal sacraments ordained for our salvation," and consider the other five sacramental rites to be "lesser sacraments" that are derivative of these two.
Occasionally, Christians who do not believe in sacramental theology will nevertheless refer to, for example, marriage as a "sacrament" in an effort to underscore their belief in the sanctity of the institution.
Those who do not believe in sacramental theology refer to these rites -- or, at least, those rites which they use --primarily baptism and communion, as "ordinances." The sacraments are usually administered by the clergy to a recipient or recipients, and are generally understood to involve visible and invisible components.

The older view among Mennonite historians generally held that Anabaptism had its origins in Zürich, and that the Anabaptism of the Swiss Brethren was transmitted to South Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and North Germany, where it developed into its various branches.
Ritschl discerned in it the leaven of the Fraticelli or Franciscan Tertiaries.

A reconstruction of evangelical Anabaptism would start by revisiting the thesis that Anabaptism was the logical conclusion of the Protestant Reformation, or as Bender put it, "the culmination of the Reformation." A reconstructed understanding of evangelical Anabaptism would be completely at home within the basic theological categories of Protestant orthodoxy.
It is an appropriation of an Anabaptism which has high views of the scriptures, of Christ as savior and lord, and of the conversion and regeneration of humans through Christ, and which confesses the ancient beliefs of the Christian church.
Their adherence to basic, orthodox church theology came not by default as is sometimes implied, but by deliberate documentation in that all the basic affirmations were massively biblically based.

In the light of the preceding discussion it should not, be surprising that "soteriology," traditionally the very nucleus of all theology, is not and cannot be a major theme in Anabaptist thought.
Now it was the ministers, trained in conventional theology, who were surprised and even a bit shocked.
It was only natural that the soteriological question should arise frequently in debates and court trials, and the brethren had to clarify their stand concerning salvation, justification, and atonement.

Anabaptist-Mennonite two-kingdom theology, however, insisted that the fruit of the gospel must be visible in the community of disciples.
Luther's doctrine of the invisible church, and his corresponding interior two-kingdom theology of Christian loyalty to both orders, is not the only possible way to appropriate Augustine's theology of "the two cities."  Leaving Munster : Thomas Finger's A Contemporary Anabaptist Theology - a review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
While Finger insists that he is looking for an implicit theology from the grass-roots, he generally only deals with leaders and their written works.
In this sense, though he is seeking to give a voice to the implicit theology of a marginalized fringe, Finger runs the risk of giving priority to the public leaders and scholars and thus perpetuating the silencing of the laity.
Aside from the questionable approach of placing the 'implicit' theology of Anabaptism alongside the explicit Constantinian theology of the Evangelical, Protestant, Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions, it is unclear why the latter groups are given prominence.

The Charismatic theology of Lutheranism describes charismatic experience[65] as the presence of the Triune God through his Spirit.[66] The actual purpose of the Holy Spirit's work is to create faith in Christ and lead the believer into a "living union" with Christ.
Explicitly using Luther's language, the Charismatic theology maintains that "in the faith itself Christ is present."[69] And: "Faith describes the whole action by which the Holy Spirit brings the living, redeeming presence of Christ into a living union with a human being.
Therefore, Wesley was less interested than Reformation theology in the permanent justification of the sinner, and more interested in the process of a moral renewal.[89] This kind of orientation does, of course, bear the marks of Eastern Orthodox spirituality.
