Theophilus Cazenove, or Theophile Cazenove (13 October 1740 - 6 March 1811), was a financier and one of the agents of the Holland Land Company.
He was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the the son of Théophile Cazenove and Marie de Raspin-Thoyras.
Cazenove lived well as a financier and was known for his generosity.

CAZENOVE, THÉOPHILE (Oct.13, 1740-Mar. 6, 1811), financier and agent of the Holland Land Company, was born in Amsterdam, Holland, the fourth of nine children.
Cazenove's advice had determined the lands selected, but his judgment left much to be desired.
From 1794 to 1799 Cazenove was engaged in perfecting his employers' title to the lands, in providing for their survey, and in opening some of them for sale through sub-agents.

The territory of this town was first settled in 1807, when Arthur Humphrey, Abner Currier and Jared Scott bought farms in Cazenove Creek valley in the northwestern part.

During 1789 to 1790, he journeyed down the Ohio and Mississippi on a flat bottom boat to Natchez, Mississippi, where his uncle had arranged a land purchase for him with the intention of starting a tobacco plantation.
He soon after became employed by Holland and Company, and along with two of its agents, Theophilus Cazenove and John Lincklaen, set out for the back part of the state of New York to establish a settlement.
He headed a party up the Mohawk River to what is now Utica, beyond which it was necessary to open up a road for the transportation of the merchandise and supplies they were carrying.
