Theoria is the activity which expresses nous, "understanding." One understands origins‹origins are not demonstrable, one cannot prove them syllogistically‹however, everything has an origin, and it is through theoria that we know these.
Theoria might be part of the make-up of a human, but it cannot be taken as separate from the practical wisdom which is also present in us.
Theoria might play a part, but here too, it would be in relation to others‹the gods might be able to think by themselves about unchanging objects, but here on earth, things change, it would be nice to reflect on these changes‹not constants, not merely origins‹talking with others in the process.

Caspar Friedrich Wolff - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1759 Wolff graduated as an M.D. from the University of Halle with his dissertation "Theoria Generationis" where he revived and supported the theory of epigenesis previously proposed by Aristotle and William Harvey.
Wolff’s "De Formatione Intestinorum" rather than his "Theoria Generationis" embodies his greatest contribution to embryology; in it he foreshadows the idea of germ layers in the embryo, which, under Pander and von Baer, became the fundamental conception in structural embryology- he laid the foundation for the germ layer theory.
Wolff foreshadowed the germ layer theory by showing that the material out of which the embryo is constructed is, in an early stage of development, arranged in the form of leaf-like layers.

 ORTHODOX SPIRITUALITY 6-7-Conclusion
Within the whole of patristic tradition it is clear that praxis is the purification of the heart's passions and theoria is both the illumination of the nous and the vision of the uncreated glory of God.
Therefore theoria is not speculation on what is said or what is seen, but it is the vision of God.
If this is in fact theoria, then it follows that praxis is nothing less than the cleansing of the heart, and repentance, the complete hesychastic way of life, instruction on hesychia.

 Ethics Without God: Donato
Theoria may be considered a good candidate for being the end of human nature both because of its nature and its objects.
Firstly, he claims that theoria is the acme of happiness and the end of human nature because of the kind of activity it involves.
Thus, the theoria which Aristotle may have in mind is not a mystical status whose calmness is contrasted with the exercise of reason.

The contemplation (theoria) of God is not effected by sight and hearing, nor it is comprehended by any of the customary perceptions of the mind.
When considering (theoria) created things, we see that all our notions are bound by time; they attempt to transcend their proper limits but cannot.
Our contemplation (theoria), however, of the respective properties of the flesh and of the Godhead remains free from confusion, so long as each of these [divine and human natures in Christ] is contemplated by itself.

 Plotinus [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
The 'power' of the One is not a power in the sense of physical or even mental action; the power of the One, as Plotinus speaks of it, is to be understood as the only adequate description of the 'manifestation' of a supreme principle that, by its very nature, transcends all predication and discursive understanding.
The One transcends all beings, and is not itself a being, precisely because all beings owe their existence and subsistence to their eternal contemplation of the dynamic manifestation(s) of the One.
Contemplation is the 'power' uniting the One, the Intelligence, and the Soul in a single all-productive intellectual force to which all existents owe their life.

Bound up with the supremacy accorded theoria within Greek bios is the fact that the Greeks, who in a unique way thought out of their language, i.e., received from it their human existence, were also able to hear something else in the word theoria.
If now we think the word theoria in the context of the meanings of the words just cited, then theoria is the reverent paying heed to the unconcealment of what presences.
The essence of theory as thought by the Greeks, which is ambiguous and from every perspective high and lofty, remains buried when today we speak of the theory of relativity in physics, of the theory of evolution in biology, of the cyclical theory in history, of the natural rights theory in jurisprudence.
