Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by death metal rock band Therion called Lemuria and Sirius B on Nuclear Blast ...
The band went through many difficulties since it was formed back in 1987, in a suburb of Stockholm.
The first important moment in the history of the band was when they released their third studio album"Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas".
It was the first time that the band displayed a variety of different influences, such as Persian scales and what they many times refer to as "religious chanting".

Metal-Rules.com: THERION - Live at DirecTV Music Hall Concert Reviews
Therion's release Theli is one of my all-time favorite albums, and I think it's one of the best records released in the nineties.
When the band entered the stage, playing "Ginnungagap", a song off their new album SECRET OF THE RUNES, I had the first impression that the gig would be a killer one.
The band has played some covers in the first part of the gig: Abba's "Summer Night Cities" was amazing, but it was extremely beautiful when they played the amazing Accept ballad "Seawinds".

 Therion
The band started in 1987 under the name Blitzkrieg, changed name to Therion in 1988 and released some demos and a MLP in 89 before the debut "Of Darkness" was released in 1991.
Being known as a creative death metal band, Therion developed over the years (starting with "Beyond Sanctorum" in 1992) to become an avant garde act appreciated by a strong undergound audience.
The band is considered to be main responsible for the big trend of symphonic bands popping up in the 90's where female singers and keyboards have become rule rather than exception and where those bands who can afford it now feel a need to use orchestra on their records.

It's a shame that an entire chunk of Therion's history has been ignored by newbies to the band...a chunk that is, incidentally, even more worthwhile than their later years.
For the album's recording, Therion brought in two classically trained singers to act as a balancing zone for Christofer Johnsson's hoarse shouting and throughout, their contributions are nothing but exceptional.
Therion uses both a choir, shouted metal vocals, and gothic singing (courtesy of Dan Swano, the Renaisance man of metal) to weave powerful melodies.

Therion covers the Abba hit in their own inimitable style, remaining true to the original while adding their own characteristic spin.
Despite the band’s serious demeanor on stage, this tourography shows that they are all just normal people, dealing with the rigors of touring in much the same way the average person handles their day to day life.
Therion covers the Motörhead classic to close out the show in powerful and energetic fashion, Johnsson handling the vocals in a manner of which Lemmy would certainly approve.

Their full-length 1991 debut on Deaf Records, Of Darkness… earned the band their first success in the metal underground, and especially notable was what the song “Symphony For The Dead” accomplished with its use of keyboards, female vocals, and clean male vocals.
Once completed, THERION were able to finalize their first concept album, Secret Of The Runes, based on the nine worlds in Nordic mythology.
During several live concerts that were recorded after a European and Latin American tour, THERION decided to use some of those recordings for their first live album, the double disc set entitled Live In Midgard, released as the celebration of the band’s fifteen year anniversary in 2002.

 Therion
Most people were there for Therion, predictably, probably partly triggered by extensive coverage on the Official Therion site where it was mentioned that this was going to be the most Therion for your money's worth, ever.
I find that Therion is a band that you don't want to shout and clap and whistle at between tracks, no, you want to climb on the stage and, in the words of civilised man, say "dude, man, like, what you do is beautiful, I love you, I really do, man." Or something like that.
After this encore, the band came back for a final "Balls to the Wall" (Accept cover), where they were more or less capably assisted by audience members pulled onto the stage.

Therion is celebrating their 15 years of being a band, though in their case it’s more Christofer celebrating the name Therion being associated with metal for 15 years as the majority of his band came much later.
Anyone familiar with Therion’s history knows that the bands current sound didn’t come around until about 4 albums into their career when they made the drastic jump from your typical death metal band to this incredibly bombastic, operatic symphony.
The band is fresh, yet surprisingly tight for the beginning of the tour.

 METALLIAN - Therion
Whatever your opinion of Therion might be nowadays (and I certainly prefer the death metal Therion of yore) it is Important to note that this is the new Therion and if its track record is anything to go by the band is not about to stop taking risks.
As regards Therion, a band that sold out and drowned in the feces of K&F (keyboards and female vocals) long ago, the bio's assertion that this has anything to do with, 'a return for Therion to both their Nordic and heavy metal roots' is a misrepresentation.
Not only Therion's roots have to do with death metal of which there is none here, but the lyrical concepts on those early recordings addressed subjects like Coca Cola and the environment.

Therion was founded by Christofer Johnsson in 1987.
Beginning as a death metal band, they later turned to combining orchestral elements with their metal music, employing heavy use of choirs and classical musicians, not only as additions to but also as integral parts of the composition.
The majority of their lyrics are written by Thomas Karlsson, head and founder of the magical order Dragon Rouge, of which Johnsson is a member.

Initially the idea was to present the band as a collection of anonymous musicians, but the album was eventually promoted as featuring a number of known musicians.
Bands like Bloodbath and Murder Squad fall into this category and it is no surprise that the said outfits disappoint for various reasons including a lack of true feeling.
Demonoid is a side-project of three members of Therion, and a drummer, and is surprisingly a hell of a strong band with great metal songs.

10,000 power metal bands that copy each other, and that everyone that can afford it all of a sudden must use an orchestra (even though they don't have much of a clue of classical music).
It's mainly Johan’s and Kristian’s project, I wouldn't really call it a band as we don't play live (not saying this might not be the case in the future though, we'd be delighted to make another album and then we'd see if we could do some shows as well).
The original idea was to not let anybody know that it was the THERION boys doing it and instead see what reactions we would get for it as a "new" band.

Therion was formed in Upplands Väsby (a suburb to Stockholm, Sweden) in 1987 by Christofer Johnsson, under the name ”Blitzkrieg”.
The wind was now finally blowing in Therion’s direction and everything seemed perfect for the next album recording; a manager had signed with the band, the deal with Nuclear Blast had been re-negotiated (and now guaranteed big budgets) and the sales figures were making everybody happy.

 THERION discography, MP3 and reviews
The true genius behind it all and undoubtedly the most important member of the band is Christofer himself - he writes all the music, plays guitar, hammond organ and keyboards as well as used to do the vocals.
The first four albums are musically in death metal style but the band still developed all the time, adding new elements to their music for each new release - clean male vocals, arabic folk music, classic music and industrial.
THERION had now become an operatic and symphonic metal band - mixing melodic IRON MAIDEN influenced metal with classical music composed by Christofer himself and with clear male and female choirs doing much of the vocals together with Christofer Johnson.

Therion are not to be compared to any other band; that's why they recorded “Live In Midgard” almost completely without overdubs.

 Therion - Romantic Death Metal
Perhaps Therion are craftier than thought, and realizing that metal's audience was downgrading with the end of creative impetus in death and fl metal, decided to be a big fish in a small pool by making distracting and pompous music for fools.
The band have lost their grasp of what made their earlier material great, that it blended the raw and the beautiful, not that it standardized itself for radio airplay as this CD clearly does.
In fact, one way to describe the difference between this style and earlier Therion is that this music aims for a consistent sensation interrupted by the voice of lead guitar; older work was like opera, ranging between experiential extremes with lead guitar and vocals as icing on the cake.

In a time when it seems as though so many of the European metal bands I listen to are starting to go downhill, it's especially gratifying to hear a band return so triumphantly to their full potential as Therion have done here.
There are of course bands like Rhapsody, but it's hard to get into anything that is really just power-puff metal filled with absurdly poppish style riffs, or even Thy Majestie, who do a very good job at blending more medieval elements with their unique use of their choirs...
