Fire Art Photos: Thermal Lance in Action
A thermic lance is a blowtorch that uses steel and oxygen as a burning agent instead of acetyline gas and oxygen like you would use in a blow torch.
The thermal lance burns at 7,000 to 8,000 °F which is hot enough to melt rock.
This also means that it's hot enough to melt through anything that melts at a lower temperature than rock, which means you have to be very careful where you aim the torch because it will burn a hole through a 1/2" thick steel table in seconds.

Thermal lance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A thermal lance or thermic lance or burning bar is a tool which burns iron in an oxygen environment to create very high temperatures for cutting.
The intensity of the heat generated by a thermal lance is such that it may be used by safe-crackers to burn through and gain access to safes.
The term "thermic lance" is occasionally used incorrectly in science fiction to mean a type of ray gun.

[0019] Furthermore, by recapturing the thermal energy that is entrained in the exhaust for additional attached applications, and thereby continuing to reduce the ultimate exhaust temperature of the exhaust gas, the volume of the exhaust decreases.
At this temperature level, there is insufficient thermal energy to create many of the complex chemical reformation reactions that occur in mass burn incinerators, some pyrolysis systems, some high temperature gasifiers, and plasma systems from the various materials that comprise the feed stock material within the reactor.
A secondary heat recovery device 212 may be utilized to further to recapture and reutilize the thermal energy entrained in the exhaust from the primary heat recovery device 211, and via subsequent use, provide a further cooled exhaust that preferably has a temperature in the range of 200 degrees to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Other benefits of microporous insulation products, in addition to their very low thermal conductivity and heat storage, are resistance to excessive compression and very low shrinkage.
The aerospace industry often requires high performance thermal management systems that maintain consistent operating temperatures, or that provide a fire barrier in addition to accomplishing their traditional goal of containing heat.
The material’s exceptionally low thermal conductivity maintains the internal contents of the box, specifically the data collection system, at low temperatures to ensure recoverable data after a simulated fire.

An iterative process was used to generate open-loop heater power profiles prior to each transient thermal test.
