Thermate is an improved version of thermite, the incendiary agent used in hand grenades during World War II.
(Thermate and phosphorus burns are the worst and most agonizing burns because thermate and phosphorus burn at such a high speed and temperature that one particle of those chemicals burns through almost everything (skin, nerves, muscles and even bones), even in places where there is none or little oxygen).

Since many CT's are still hooked on the "free-fall velocity" thing, whatever they do with thermate would be presumed to answer the question they have about why the building didn't collapse one story, pause to catch its breath, collapse another story, pause, and so forth all the way to the ground.
A) the thermate is meticulously timed so the structural members of each story is severed just as the mass of the falling building reaches it.
Thermate apparently has a Barium Nitrate and Sulphur binding and is used in things like incendary grenades.

 RE: No power sources available
Thermate is a powdered mixture of 1 part barium nitrate, 2 parts aluminum, and 3 parts iron oxide (rust).
The burning liquid metal produced by the reaction has an accelerated heating/corrosion effect, and an M14 thermate grenade is said to be capable of burning a hole through a 1/2-inch thick steel plate.
Unlike the anti-personnel WP grenades, thermate grenades can be used to damage vehicles, small buildings, stored munitions, etc. The burning metal welds parts together, burns holes through plate, and distorts structural components.

Thermate combines aluminum/iron oxide (thermite) with barium nitrate (29%) and sulfur (typically 2% although more sulfur could be added).
The thermate reaction proceeds rapidly and is much faster than thermite in degrading steel leading to structural failure.
However IF thermate is used, and it is used in quantities to cause any appreciable effect, then one should also have a lot of melted steel and Aluminum Slag left behind as evidence.

Thermate is a derivative of thermite in that it is basically thermite with sulfur added.
Thermate is used specifically for cutting through steel due to its intense heat output.

He’s been claiming that there were thermates used at WTC for a while, on the strength of video ‘evidence’, though, and while I don’t have any particular reason to doubt these findings it does seem awfully convenient for him.
Is it possible that thermate was used during the cleanup, to break welds or cut sections of steel it was impractical to cut with a saw or cutting torch?
It introduces the possibility of another source of thermate residues on WTC steel and raises the question of just when those chemical traces were introduced to the metal.

What troubles me is a statement I read that thermite and thermate burn down, not across a metal, so if you applied it to the sides of columns, it would not cut through them.
The thermate was applied at a 45 degree angle to the main girders throughout the 3 buildings, and in the corner areas of the tower.
WTC 1 and 2 were not a "controlled" demo in as the only controlled aspect of it was the explosions and rolling explosions that destroyed the towers.

Yes, there is sulfur -- but proving the use of 'thermate' positively will certainly require further analyses and comparisons with samples of known origin (such as thermate-products).

When combined with other substances, such as binders, the material is termed a "thermate." All such materials react vigorously when heated to the combustion temperature of aluminum.
This reaction produces aluminum oxide, elemental iron, and sufficient heat to melt the iron.

He relates, for example, how eyewitnesses had observed that steel from all three skyscrapers had melted, (in some cases, the steel was found glowing three weeks after the attack) and was twisted in a way that can only have been caused by what he describes as pre-positioned “cutter charges”.
According to Jones, these charges consisted of thermate, HMX or RDX, and these are only used in explosives that are used in controlled demolitions.
