Under certain conditions, it is possible to produce a predominance of the beta form, in which regions that were alpha helical are now stabilized as beta pleated sheets.
The first condition is the predominance of genetically altered beta chains (HbS) in which the acid amino acid glutamate is replaced with the hydrophobic amino acid valine at amino acid position 6.
If beta forms were to encounter each other, however, there is the possibility that additional bonds would form, thereby stabilizing the molecules in the beta form.

Thermodynamic study of beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase enzyme heterogeneity in human seminal plasma.
The purpose of our study was to evaluate this hypothesis using a thermodynamic procedure developed to determine total Hex activity and that of its isoenzymes in this biological fluid.
The thermodynamic procedure described may be a useful alternative for the study of the Hex enzyme heterogeneity in spermatozoa.

This is analogous to the second law of thermodynamics, with the surface areas of the fl holes being a measure of the entropy of the system.
The fundamental SI unit of thermodynamic temperature defined as 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point of water.
The radiated power P (rate of emission of electromagnetic energy) of a hot body is proportional to the radiating surface area, A, and the fourth power of the thermodynamic temperature, T. The constant of proportionality is the Stefan-Boltzmann constant.

They can be obtained in the frame of the so-called "thermodynamic formalism" which was first introduced for continuous systems and then extended to discrete time Markov processes.
We clearly separated expected thermodynamically stable phases dominated by the respective adsorbed and desorbed collapsed and random-coil conformations.
The 2d XY model is known to possess in the thermodynamic limit N → ∞ at low temperatures a quasi-long-range order with zero magnetization and a power-law decay of the pair correlation function.

Ensemble average - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Since the Ensemble average is dependent of the ensemble chosen, its mathematical expression varies from ensemble to ensemble.
However, the mean obtained for a given physical quantity doesn't depend on the ensemble chosen at the thermodynamic limit.
For a classical system in thermal equilibrium with its environment, the ensemble average takes the form of an integral over the phase space of the system:
