TrekWeb.com - Reviews Ex Deus: "These Are The Voyages..." Ends It All
ENT deserved to end with a grand episode like "Twilight." It at the very least deserved a decent send-off and though "Voyages" attempts to suggest that this is about Enterprise's legacy, it is actually nothing of the kind.
It is hard not to feel a sudden sense of joy and homecoming when the holodeck's yellow lines light up and Riker walks out of Enterprise and into the Enterprise-D corridor, and we feel as if we've never left.
Voyager finally returning home to be greeted by a waiting fleet after Janeway has torn apart the future and the Borg for her crew.

[ENT] Jammer's Review: "These Are the Voyages..."
As a final act of redemption, "These Are the Voyages" does get the last 30 seconds right, with a series-melding montage that blends TNG, TOS, and Enterprise, with three captains speaking the famous Star Trek mantra.
It's just that the generalities are not adequately developed as specific ideas for the Enterprise characters, and the show ultimately comes across as an ill-executed, ponderous, miscalculated melding of two Trek series, neither of which comes into real focus.
On this particular day, however -- on which Star Trek: Enterprise is airing its final episode and the franchise itself is going away for the first time since TNG started 18 years ago -- I'm not so sure it works.

Many critics have weighed in on the final episode of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, "These Are The Voyages...".
Jim Slotek at the Toronto Sun: "After seeing These Are The Voyages, the series finale of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, I've decided the castmembers of this last Star Trek series really are being punished for failing.
In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, just out in the US, critic Marc Bernardin gives the STAR TREK ENTERPRISE finale "These Are The Voyages..." a grade of "B".

The Trek Nation - These Are the Voyages...
I don't think that "These Are the Voyages..." is the stink-bomb of an episode that some of the early reviews have claimed, nor do I think it's the glorious send-off for the Star Trek franchise that some folk at Paramount would like us to believe.
As a Next Generation episode I'd give "These Are the Voyages..." decent marks - not perfect ones, but it's perfectly in character, the storyline fits nicely into the events of "The Pegasus" and I love the casual way Data slips in, even if it's just his voice.
One of my big complaints with Enterprise all along has been its insistence on telling rather than showing who these people are.

Text on a computer screen visible in the episode "In a Mirror, Darkly" gives 2160 as the year Archer's command of Enterprise ended, but this is contradicted by the finale episode "These Are the Voyages..." which takes place at the founding of the Federation, previously established as occurring in 2161.

There were a number of episodes in the Voyager series as well as the second season of Enterprise that clearly indicated why you just can't shove crap down viewers throats and expect them to like it.
Perhaps had the final episode been two hours, there would have been more time to really dramatize Archer's coping with Trips death and how he came to decide that exploring the final frontiers was worth all the risk, even personal sacrifices.

Granted, these were not the real "people" but holographic representations of recorded mission and personal logs, but with all the holodeck shows we've sat through, you'd think the computer would be programmed with enough data on human behavior to show them being sad at the loss of a freind, even at the conference.

This episode was good as a regular episode (maybe a 7 out of 10), but it was not a great episode, or the finale Enterprise deserved.
But this whole episode seemed rushed to me. I kept thinking the whole time how much better it probably would have been if they had time to plan out everything (that was crammed into this one episode) and spread it out over several separate episodes.
The holodeck simulation gave the episode a lack of feeling as if it didn't matter what the ENT crew did because it wasn't real, needed to be longer and have more weight to it.

The Trek BBS: Enterprise episode showdown.spoilers 4th season
These Are The Voyages was CLEARLY a TNG episode as it took place entirely in the 24th century.
However, if you are doing the first episode vs. the last episode, that probably isn't such a great way to do it (no offense, it just could lead to some really good shows competing against each other early on, instead of late when it counts).
I also thought it added poignancy that as we are watching these events unfold they are only holograms long since dead, only living on through history and holoprograms of their legendary exploits.

It provides closure; it sets up for the movie....AND, it doesn't mean more Enterprise episodes couldn't be made.
It would be no different from making the final episode of TNG into the first episode of Buffy the Vampire slayer where everyone is talking about the final episode of TNG throughout the episode, instead of simply showing us the final episode it self.
