With regard to the resignation of the Metropolitan Bishop of Thessaliotida, Theoklitos, he said that he was aware of the fact since this morning.
Regarding the resignation of the Metropolitan Bishop of Thessaliotida, Theoklitos, he declared that the decision was reached after much thought, while the Bishop briefed him of his resignation on Friday noon.
He actually said that he reached this decision, not because he is guilty, but in order to save the Church’s prestige, in view of the latest torrent of defamations and untruths regarding himself and other members of the clergy.

On the Metropolite of Attiki, the Holy Synod decided that he will be called to give explanations tomorrow morning to help the Synod establish if there are reasons to put him on suspension for six months to shed light on all the charges made against him.
On the Metropolite of Thessaliotida, who has placed himself at the disposal of the Church, will have to offer written explanations on the charges against him by February 8 and after that the Holy Synod will decided on further action.
Also, the Holy Synod decided to ask the government to form a law preparatory committee, chaired by the Archbishop and with the participation of representatives of the State and the Church, to draw up a new ecclesiastical courts law.

Archbishop Christodoulos spoke of all that had happened in the sector of the Church in past months, saying that "all necessary measures were taken for internal self-cleansing as well as for the further shielding of the holy institution of the Church."

Responding to questions, Syros Metropolitan Dorotheos denied reports that Church leaders were displeased with the government's stance on tackling corruption within the ranks of the Church.
In addition to being barred from his administrative and ecclesiastical duties, Panteleimon has been asked to quit the metropolitan residence and to supply documentation to the Holy Synod regarding the bank deposits he has admitted having and explanations regarding his luxury residence, which was the subject of press reports.
In a decision last week, Theocletus was cleared of wrongdoing by the Holy Synod, who decided his accuser was untrustworthy but the metropolitan has asked for a full investigation so that he can fully clear his name.

Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos, speaking in an interview with the Alpha television channel on Friday night, said he will not resign because "the Archbishop does not resign, he is annihilated."
The Archbishop further said that Thessaliotida Metropolitan Theoklitos had already informed him in the morning that he intended to resign.
Indeed, Theoklitos announced to his congregation in the town of Karditsa, central Greece, in the evening that he intended to resign next week and more specifically on Tuesday when the Permanent Holy Synod will convene and will be examining it.
