Experimental film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An experimental film is a film organized neither as narrative fiction nor as non-fiction.
As such, film scholars consider the experimental or avant-garde film to be one of the major modes of filmmaking, along with the narrative film, the documentary film and arguably animation.
Though experimental film is known to a relatively small number of practitioners, academics and connoisseurs, it has influenced and continues to influence cinematography, visual effects and editing.

Tower of Babel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A large construction project in the ancient world might have used pressed labour from a diverse set of conquered or subject populations, and the domain of the empires covering Babylon would have contained some non-Semitic languages, such as Hurrian, Kassite, Sumerian, and Elamite, among others.
In the 1927 and 2001 film versions of Metropolis, the newly-rebuilt Tower of Babel (known in the 2001 anime film version as the Ziggurat) is the symbol of the titular grand city-state and the center of human imperial power.
In the 2001 anime film version, the superhuman robot clone of Duke Red's daughter, Tima is to sit on her throne to activate the Ziggurat's revolutionary solar superweapon of mass destruction in order to achieve the goal of reaching the stars and domination of the entire Earth.

The color scheme of the film is visibly - and intentionally - muted, a sign of the movie’s age.
On this premise “They Might Be Giant” is an intelligent movie that weaves both elements together to create a tale that is sometimes funny, sometimes thrilling and sometimes romantic without ever losing focus.

TMBG's most famous songs are probably one single from each of their first three albums, "Don't Let's Start" (from They Might Be Giants), "Ana Ng" (from Lincoln), and "Birdhouse in Your Soul" (from Flood), and also "Boss of Me" (theme to the hit television comedy, Malcolm in the Middle).
This owes largely to the use of songs from all of the Giants' previous albums: the infamous punching-the-kid-in-the-wheelchair scene from the first MITM season, for example, was done to the strains of "Pencil Rain" from Lincoln.

They Might Be Giants is an illustration of the difference between "success" and "selling out".
Beginning with John Henry, They Might Be Giants started recording albums as a full band (having added supporting musicians to the live line-up years prior), but it did little to constrain their trademark sound.
Instead, it's almost as though the scene has finally caught up to They Might Be Giants, and they're having fun with it, sense of humor intact but tempered a bit by time.

 Apple - Pro/Film - AJ Schnack
The film is an apt expression of the band’s unlikely 20-year success story; both are squarely based on a proud Do-It-Yourself (DIY) ethic that lets little guys with big ideas — and the right technologies — earn a visible presence in today’s deep-pocketed, conglomerate-dominated worlds of music and film.
Although they habitually downplay their success (John Flansburgh says TMBG’s status as the most successful indie group in the U.S. “is like being the world’s tallest midget”), there’s no denying TMBG has always struck a chord with its fans, many of whom, even as the band ages, continue to be teens.
In the film, Ira Glass reflects on this phenomenon: “I think the reason why they get an audience whose age starts around 12 to 14 is that there’s a cleverness to their songs that just kills you when you’re that age — you just can’t believe it could be so clever.”
