  things falling apart... - @forums
He has some issues that he needs to work through, but he has gone out of his way to stress that he still loves you, that he still wants to be with you, and that he will be back as soon as he can be.
Now, maybe he's misguided in that; but the fact seems to be that in his heart, he's making things harder for himself by pushing you away because he believes that's what's best for you.
Still, if that's what he wants, give him a week and then have a chat, see how he is, and if things are slightly less upon him, as I said before, tell him how you feel, and try to get to the bottom of things.

Though often mesmerizing in the way Reznor's inventive sonic structure and relentlessly bleak tone congeal so convincingly around the catchiest of pop melodies, the man seems to have run out of places to go.
Things Falling Apart, a collection of severely remixed songs from The Fragile, adds precious little to Rezner's familiar, impossibly angry milieu.
Almost all the songs fall short of their original versions, especially all three versions of "Starf***ers Inc" (though, to be fair, that may have been The Fragile's best track).

The portrait of this culture on the eve of its "falling apart" in Part I of Things Fall Apart is complex, sometimes contradictory and critical.
The plot of tragedy traces the tragic fall of the hero, when a disastrous change of fortune, or reversal, catapults him (classical tragic heroes are often male) from the heights of happiness to the depths of misery.
This fall usually comes as a consequence of a tragic flaw in the hero’s character and/or an error of judgment, although the fall may also be a product of the hero’s pre-ordained destiny or fate.

With the release of Things Falling Apart, which contains "…various manipulations of songs recorded from the fragile sessions." man and machine everywhere have reason to rejoice.
In Things Falling Apart, as in preceding NIN "manipulation" albums such as Fixed and Further Down The Spiral, specific portions of a given track are often focused on, perhaps slowed down or sped up, or even stripped to very simple rhythm pattern by cutting out distortion and interfering noises.
Yet in Things Falling Apart, the emphasis is not simply on adapting the most dance-friendly portion of the track into an extended piece, but rather we hear a whole new track, in some cases a virtually unidentifiable one.

Things Falling Apart, a collection of severely remixed songs from The Fragile, adds precious little to Rezner's familiar, impossibly angry milieu.
Most everything here falls short of their original versions, especially all three versions of "Starfuckers Inc" (though, in fairness, that may have been The Fragile's best track).
Things Falling Apart has some great tracks, 'Slipping Away' is pure industrial metal, the remix of 'The Wretched' is possibly more dark than the original.

President George W. Bush started things off in January, when he delivered a ringing address at a suburban D.C. high school about the urgency of reforming American high schools and offered a bold $1.5 billion plan for doing so.
It was, if you will, a modern public-policy rendition of the tale of the blind men and the elephant, wherein each sightless man had a different notion of the essential nature of this beast depending on which part he was touching.
One thing we do know is that if we get the answers wrong, we invite a new maximum feasible misunderstanding, and high-school reform will be declared a failure.

It didn't sell very well, it was panned by critics (including our very own Christopher Thelen) and many considered it the last shout of a bored visionary.
Despite that, however, Reznor was not performing the music just to cater to the fans - as evidenced by the delayed followup EP, Things Falling Apart.
This album features remixes, cut music, and different interpretations of songs that had, by the time it was released, been fairly well absorbed by his fanbase.

Richard Leader: NIN - Things Falling Apart   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
NIN have always taken advantage of their remix albums to experiment with their material, forsaking the limitations of radio friendly hooks and choruses--a tradition that Things Falling Apart continues.
Beginning with "Slipping Away," a manipulation of the moderate radio hit "Into the Void," Reznor stripped out the failing narrative lyrics of the original and allows other sounds to drive the music forward--setting the apathetically haunting, if utterly disjointed, anabasis of the record.
"The Great Collapse" does the same thing (and with considerably more success) to "The Wretched." A strict remake of "The Wretched" follows, inverting the original song to demonstrate the shock value of absolute silence, which is interesting--if less than memorable.

REVIEW: Nine Inch Nails - "Things Falling Apart"
Things Falling Apart is a collection of "remixes" of songs appearing on The Fragile, a cover and one or two songs that didn't make the album.
As usual the remixes, as with most** recent NIN remixes, devolve into forgettable studio masturbation, boring noise fests or anemic minimalism.
Things Falling Apart does have some fine moments, but for the most part it's for hardcore fans only.

Released with little fanfare, Things Falling Apart features remixes, reconstructions, and manipulations of several of tracks from The Fragile, along with a menacing cover of Gary Numan's "Metal".
More a reinterpretation than a companion piece, Things Falling Apart builds on the same thematic elements present in The Fragile without having to be dependent upon it.
While The Fragile, at its core, was music for the masses, Things Falling Apart is obviously not intended to be.

And even, then, there was a total of 3 hours of remixes (including these 2 versions of the album, the 60 minutes “Closer to god” single and the “march of the pigs” 5 mixes EP) from the album – which was overkill.
“Things falling apart” is the third remix album in a row from a third studio album, and frankly, the formula is getting thin and predictable.
Quite frankly, given the precedent set before, its not a good omen, and “Things Falling Apart” is the least impressive, least essential Nine Inch Nails release to date.

Alan S. Miller - Coming Together When Things Are Falling Apart
Thanksgiving is a time when families and friends traditionally come together to give simple thanks for life and for all the good things we have received during the year.
It’s sometimes hard to both celebrate the good things in our lives and at the same time reckon with the way the balance sheets have so often been tipped in ours rather than someone else’s favor.
Perhaps this Thanksgiving, we can come together with those we love, and also vow to do something about all the places in the world where things are once again falling apart for our sisters and our brothers.
