Blur - Think Tank : album review
Of course, the band's seventh album is a very different prospect to previous albums, but it's none the worse for that.
Blur have always experimented and developed their sound, and Think Tank is no expection.
Think Tank is an album of wildly differing sounds - from the wistful string laden Out Of Time, though the hardcore punk of We've Got A File On You, to the woozy freeform jazz of Jets, each track is different.

Think Tank (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Think Tank is the seventh studio album by English rock band Blur, released in May 2003 (see 2003 in music).
The album was recorded after Coxon quit the band; because of this, it features almost no electric guitar in the style of Blur's earlier albums, largely relying on backing vocals and other instruments to fill the void.
Think Tank was recorded in Morocco with Fatboy Slim contributing to two tracks; supposedly his presence as producer was a contributing factor in Graham Coxon's departure from the group.

With guitarist Graham Coxon out of the picture, world beats and bass guitar take on new lead roles on Think Tank, a rather disjointed follow-up to the band's experimental 13.
Think Tank is less focused and seems to be a casserole of leftovers from Albarn's recent side affairs, including the exhilarating Gorillaz project (see the bass-driven funk noir of "Brothers & Sisters" and "Jets").
As their label bio proudly proclaims: there are "all sorts of curious noises where electric guitars used to be." It's an indulgence U2 perfected on their underrated Pop album and a handicap Radiohead and R.E.M. continue to suffer.

An eclectic mix of sounds, Blur's latest effort Think Tank is a surprising step in new musical directions for a band known for its Brit-pop sound.
Strongly affected by the departure of founding member and lead guitarist Graham Coxon in the initial stages of Think Tank's evolution, Blur made the bold choice to not only press forward as a trio, but to innovate by replacing guitar-driven songs with bass leads, electronic melodies and some truly strange noises.
Alternately languid, intense, quiet and raucous, Think Tank is a resounding statement by Damon Albarn, Alex James and Dave Rowntree that love it or hate it, shows Blur is moving forward as a band to explore new musical horizons.
