Third ventricle -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
The third ventricle is one of the four connected fluid-filled cavities within the human (That part of the central nervous system that includes all the higher nervous centers; enclosed within the skull; continuous with the spinal cord) brain.
It is a median cleft between the two thalami, and is filled with (Clear liquid produced in the ventricles of the brain; fills and protects cavities in the brain and spinal cord) cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
The third ventricle is bounded by the (Large egg-shaped structures of gray matter that form the dorsal subdivision of the diencephalon) thalamus and (A basal part of the diencephalon governing autonomic nervous system) hypothalamus on both the left and right sides.

The medial surface constitutes the upper part of the lateral wall of the third ventricle, and is connected to the corresponding surface of the opposite thalamus by a flattened gray band, the massa intermedia (middle or gray commissure).
The under surface rests upon the tela chorioidea of the third ventricle, which separates it from the epithelial roof of that cavity, and from the medial portions of the upper surfaces of the thalami.
