Spinal Tap has been in existence since the mid 1960’s and their sound has evolved with the times.
Spinal Tap is touring to promote their new album "Smell The Glove." Release of the album has been delayed due to the graphic nature of the album cover.
The new special edition of "This is Spinal Tap" from MGM Home Entertainment, presents the film in an anamorphic widescreen, which is letterboxed at 1.70:1.

The career of fictional rock group Spinal Tap is a high decibel example of life imitating art imitating life.
What makes the new DVD release of Spinal Tap such a pleasure, then, is the opportunity to experience anew one of the funniest films of the 1980's - one that launched the "mockumentary" format as a genre unto itself.
For Tap devotees who have numbed themselves to the film's charms through repetitive viewings, watching This is Spinal Tap with this often hilarious audio track serves as the perfect reminder of what made the movie so special in the first place.

Spinal Tap's music is better than most of the 80's metal bands of the time.
Bitch School is from the album they released in the 90's when the sequel to the movie came out and there was some revived interest in the original.
This Is Spinal Tap wasn't aimed at the hair metal audience, it was aimed at people who liked ACDC and Dio and crap like that, and the music was suitably awful.

Though Spinal Tap would be every bit as amusing if it were about a real band, the knowledge that it’s actually an elaborate sham, and the acting completely improvised, certainly adds to the impressive factor.
Spinal Tap is a movie you have to see repeatedly if only because it's so jam-packed with hilarious lines that first-time around, you're sure to miss many of the funniest lines when they're drowned out by the din of your own laughter.

After a long hiatus, Spinal Tap reform and release yet another magnificent rock n roll opus that is untouched by anyone in the rock n roll world.
Spinal Tap is still one of my favorite comedy movies of all time and the fact that they didn't let the joke die is fine with me. Besides the obviously humorous and sarcastic song titles and lyrics, I actually do enjoy listening to this CD.

Alas, a variety of dastardly forces unite to ruin Spinal Tap's big tour, from meddling record execs to politically correct organizations to women who, well, are just frightened of the band because they have armadillos in their trousers.
The film is also filled with live performances of such Spinal Tap classics as "Big Bottom," "Hell Hole," and "Sex Farm." Each is as hilarious as its title would suggest and does a great job of skewering the big dumb sex mentality of many hard rock bands.
Despite its greatness, This Is Spinal Tap does suffer a bit from the fact that it pre-dated the heyday of the hair metal explosion, which could have lent itself to some more good gags that seem to be missing from the film.

Tap opened the show, which was part of the ninth annual Toyota Comedy Festival, with that advocate for redundancy, "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight," a promise the band lived up to with the nearly 20 songs that followed.
For all the hilarity of Spinal Tap's songs, the three bandmembers along with keyboardist Caucasian Jeffery Vanston and Skippy Skuffelton — a drummer with a deathwish considering Tap's past percussionists' untimely deaths — looked somewhat silly and bare on Carnegie Hall's vast stage.
The crowd, which included Oasis' Gallagher brothers, Jamie Lee Curtis and "Dawson's Creek" actress Michelle Williams, showed its approval of Spinal Tap's satanic underpinning by raising fists and replicating the horns on the head of the devil himself with index and pinky fingers throughout the show.

One of the greatest ironies surrounding This Is Spinal Tap is that it's actually better than many of the recordings it parodies.
These days, Spinal Tap could probably get away with the original cover, as described by the publicist (Fran Drescher): "A woman on all fours, greased up, with a dog collar around her neck, and a man's glove in her face, asking her to smell the glove?!!"
The band members of Spinal Tap consisted of David St. Hubbins(McKean), who is the band's vocalist and one of two main guitarists.

I actually avoided it, even after I discovered Spinal Tap was a mock band, more on the fact that mockumentaries never amused me. I had seen a Canadian film called Hard Core Logo and was not at all amused by it.

I'm not sure when I first saw SPINAL TAP, probably in college, but I try to watch it at least once a year for shits and giggles.
As the film opens, they're all excited about touring America for their new album "Smell the Glove." They are booked into arenas and are looking forward to performing.

The comedic genius of This Is Spinal Tap is confirmed by the fact that a majority of studio executives were utterly clueless about its brilliance.
Reiner and the members of "Tap" (Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer) couldn't have picked a better target for their satire, because heavy metal music in the early 1980s was already a borderline case of self-parody.
Spinal Tap is a great comic movie - hilarious from start to finish.

The satire's not nearly as sharp as Spinal Tap, the retro backing is conventional, and the 70s produced way more 50s nostalgia than anyone needs, but by the same token, this is about a million billion times better than anything by Sha Na Na.

This new MGM disc's commentary was recorded with the actual members of Spinal Tap (yes, the same actors as on the Criterion track...
Included in the interview is a snippet of a press conference where Tap talks about the film negatively.
One last note, is that this new disc also features complete songs which play behind different menu screens of the disc (odds are the whole album is on this disc somehow) - a very cool touch.
