  The Last Night in Sodom
And the iniquity of the inhabitants was full; the last drop was added to the fiery cup of wrath to be poured upon their heads, when they received the warning as an idle tale and treated the messengers with contempt.
The sin of Sodom, however gross in reputation and in reality, was the offspring of wealth and leisure--the two things which the worldly heart most desires, and of which, when possessed, the worldly heart :s most proud.
It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for those who spent their lives in such utter neglect of the great salvation.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: The Church
This unity of worship is to be the fruit of a Divine revelation common to all the inhabitants of the earth (Zack., xiv, 8).
The Kingdom of God to be established at the last day is the Church in her final triumph.
Further light is thrown on the matter by a consideration of the organization that is found to have existed in the period immediately subsequent to the death of the last Apostle.

Soft Cell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Again, Soft Cell courted some controversy when their second single from the album, "Numbers," was banned from the BBC due to references in the song to the drug speed.
By 1983, they had decided to amicably dissolve the band and released one final L.P. called "This Last Night in Sodom,"(1984) a critical success but a commercial failure.
Soft Cell had considered recording "The Night" back in 1981 in place of "Tainted Love" as their last-ditch attempt to score a chart hit.

 Patriarchs and Prophets
Abraham was not a stranger to the people of Sodom, and his worship of the unseen God had been a matter of ridicule among them; but his victory over greatly superior forces, and his magnanimous disposition of the prisoners and spoil, excited wonder and admiration.
The inhabitants of Sodom had passed the limits of divine forbearance--"the hidden boundary between God's patience and His wrath." The fires of His vengeance were about to be kindled in the vale of Siddim.
On the night prior to their destruction, the cities of the plain rioted in pleasure and derided the fears and warnings of the messenger of God; but those scoffers perished in the flames; that very night the door of mercy was forever closed to the wicked, careless inhabitants of Sodom.

 TheCritics.org: Movie Review
But until recently I was not aware that Soft Cell was a synth-poop band the likes of Erasure, New Order and Depeche Mode – all bands that thrived in a time when the genre was all the rage.
It's hard to believe that Soft Cell released their next-to-most-recent major release, This Last Night in Sodom, 18 years ago, before releasing Cruelty Without Beauty in 2002.
The new DVD release from Eagle Vision, "Soft Cell Live In Milan" tries to bring the band into the limelight once again early in the 2000's, but the DVD fails to achieve the extent of success that could be imagined.

After releasing Last Night In Sodom in 1984, Soft Cell's Marc Almond and David Ball went in different directions.
I think about what the artist last sounded like and what people remember them sounding like.
"The Night" is brilliantly takes one eerie (almost Phantom Of The Opera-esque) keyboard line and converts it to an aggressive dance track.

Last Night in Sodom is sort of a slight departure from the previous works in that there is some guitar in some of the songs.
DON'T start your experience with this album; I still recommend easing one's self into their perspective by starting with their first and second albums, Non-Stop Ecstatic Dancing and Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret before moving onto This Last Night and The Art of Falling Apart.
If you're curious as to whether or not your emotional memory/reaction to "the club scene" is/was common (and just how well it could be described through music), you will not find better.

 Soft Cell: Cruelty Without Beauty
Soft Cell, the two-man synth band infamous for "Tainted Love" and for exploring the nightlife underbelly of the '80s, have returned in surprising form with their first new studio CD since 1984's Last Night in Sodom.
And like many former clubkids-turned-grownups, they've widened their view of the world, turning a perceptively critical eye on fame, excessive lifestyles and shallow banality with some success.
Soft Cell's last foray into cashing in on their early fame—the Memorabilia: Remix singles collection that litters bargain bins everywhere—was so terrible that I faced this new CD with great trepidation, crossing fingers that this effort would compare favorably to their early synthpop classics.

Amazon.co.uk: This Last Night in...Sodom: Music   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
'This Last Night...in Sodom' was Soft Cell's messy adieu from 1984, the result of an announced 'retirement' following Marc Almond's meltdown which involved Marc and the Mambas, a whip and a music journalist.
Soft Cell's fourth and last studio album, "This Last Night In Sodom" is the music that Ball and Almond wanted to make.
This album reflects the results of much time spent by the band in the USA at the time and is a grittier more aggressive sound that is far removed from the pop of "Tainted Love".

Given the present fascination with the electroid sleaze sounds of the early '80s, it should come as no surprise that the Soft Cell, the indisputed godfathers of electroid sleaze, should be staging a comeback.
Yes indeed, the immortal duo of Marc Almond and Dave Ball have released their first studio album since 1984's Last Night in Sodom.
The new record, Cruelty without Beauty, revives Soft Cell's patented trashy synth-heavy cabaret sound while reportedly delivering songs with more substance than ever before.
