Regé’s contribution, adapted from the testimony of a Palestinian woman who changed her mind about a suicide bombing at the last moment, is one of the book’s highlights.
The panels here are much smaller and less precious than Seth’s previous work in Clyde Fans and It’s a Good Life, If You Don’t Weaken, and the work unexpectedly succeeds by virtue of that lightness, as if Seth has been unburdened by the expectations of a more “serious” work.
A long-time contributor to the the magazine's interior pages, Seth had his first New Yorker cover this past August which charmingly portrayed a hot summer in the city.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Woman
Woman's resistance to this was and is an instinctive impulse of moral self-preservation.
Woman's work is also in itself of equal value with that of a man, as the work performed by both is ennobled by the same human dignity.
A woman could not be a witness in court as to a man's status, and she could not accuse a man of murder except in the case that the victim was her husband.

 History of Woman Suffrage
Mrs Stanton and I—here in her most delightfully quiet and pleasant home—are working for dear life—trying to gather up the threads of our Woman's Rights History in this country— We propose to have a general history—and interwoven with it—a brief sketch of one and another of the leaders—with their pictures—.
After the excitement of their Centennial protest, Anthony, Stanton, and Matilda Joslyn Gage gathered in Tenafly, N.J., to start work on the History of Woman Suffrage.
It is hard work but I find it deeply interesting, this review of thirty years labors.

 Scriptorium - Kobo Abé
The Woman in the Dunes (1964), Kobo Abé's first novel translated into English, remains his most frequently cited work in the United States; though its popularity may have less to do with any perceived literary superiority to his later work, and more to do with society's overwhelming preference for theatrical over literary entertainment.
Second, I hope that this section will be of use to a reader unfamiliar with Abé, by providing some thematic description of his various novels so that those new to Abé can select a work best suited to their individual taste.
In 1960 his novel The Woman in the Dunes won the Yomiuri Prize for literature.

A Vindication of the Rights of Woman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Written in 1792, Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman is one of the earliest works on "the woman question" and influenced the earliest feminists in England and America in the 19th century, primarily in their distancing themselves from the work due to the controversial life of its author.
Some major themes of this work are education for girls, the debased position of women in society, the necessary equality of men and women, and the right of women to work.
Wollstonecraft's argument in A Vindication of the Rights of Woman was that boys and girls should be educated equally while in Émile the education of boys and girls is not equal.

National Gallery of Australia acquires Pregnant woman
Pregnant woman will be included in exhibitions of Mueck’s work to be held at The National Gallery, London from March to June 2003, at the Frans Hals Museum Haarlem from November 2003 to January 2004, and the National Gallery Berlin early in 2004, before returning to permanent display at the National Gallery of Australia.
Pregnant woman and several of the other works have not been on public display before, having been completed recently by Mueck as part of his residency as the fifth Associate Artist at The National Gallery, London.
There are surprisingly few representations of a naked pregnant woman in the history of art, and Mueck has succeeded in creating a figure, at once poignant but also powerful and awe-inspiring.

 Reveal Review: Woman King EP
Woman King is the work of a true artist; few of his contemporaries—Over the Rhine, Daniel Lanois, and Joe Henry are all on the short list—can match Beam’s knack for dynamics, his sense of restraint, and his sophisticated use of texture and color.
Woman King EP is a busy, complicated affair, filled with ringing pianos, tempestuous acoustic guitar work, intricate percussion arrangements, and—gasp!—even a few muted electric guitars.
Woman King sounds like the stepping stone toward what could very well be his finest moment, and an essential collection for discerning audiophiles everywhere.

A Woman Peeling Apples - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
However, Vermeer's work typically portrayed a woman working alone instead of a family scene as in A Woman Peeling Apples.
It is also sometimes referred to in a longer form, A Woman Peeling Apples, with a Small Child.
Its sensitive handling of light—in particular, natural light filtered into an otherwise unlit interior space—led 19th century art historians to attribute it to Jan Vermeer, with whose work the painting does bear strong similarities.

"No ordinary work done by a man is either as hard or as responsible as the work of a woman who is bringing up a family of small children; for upon her time and strength demands are made not only every hour of the day but often every hour of the night.
When the good Lord was creating mothers, he was into his sixth day of overtime, when the angel appeared and said, "you're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one."
She may have to get up night after night to take care of a sick child, and yet must by day continue to do all her household duties as well; and if the family means are scant she must usually enjoy even her rare holidays taking her whole brood of children with her....."

 Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797)
The title, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, reminiscent both of her earlier work, A Vindication of the Rights of Men (1790), and Tom Paine's Rights of Man, a runaway bestseller of 1791-1792, along with her already-established reputation conferred almost instant celebrity-status on the work.
Her unique contribution to the debate on the woman question was that she questioned the right of men to make the rules, concluding that since men and women are both intellectual and moral beings, it is only men's power which enabled them to make the rules to suit themselves.
So it is not surprising that Vindication of the Rights of Woman was both acclaimed and disclaimed when it was published.

 WOMAN SUFFRAGE
The misfortune of woman is not that she is unable to do the work of a man, but that she is wasting her life-force to outdo him, with a tradition of centuries which has left her physically incapable of keeping pace with him.
Woman demands the same rights as man, yet she is indignant that her presence does not strike him dead: he smokes, keeps his hat on, and does not jump from his seat like a flunkey.
Woman, even more than man, is a fetich worshipper, and though her idols may change, she is ever on her knees, ever holding up her hands, ever blind to the fact that her god has feet of clay.
