Bickerton, 46, will be installed formally as bishop of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church during a service at 4:30 p.m.
Bickerton, a native of Moundsville, W.Va., said one of his goals as bishop will be working to revive the United Methodist Church and to bring in a more diverse group of parishioners.
Bickerton, the United Methodist Church's youngest bishop, was elected to the post in July by lay and clergy delegates.

I have been researching my own Bickerton family tree for about 10 years and have traced my line back to my 5 x Great Grandfather Samuel Bickerton born 1718 and died 1793 in Marchwiel, Denbighshire.
I believe his father was Thomas Bickerton who, according to the churchwarden accounts of Myddle, lived in the hamlet of Bilmarsh immediately before Samuel appears in the accounts.
Thomas Bickerton married Sarah Thomas in 1715 in Oswestry, Shropshire.

Harris was born in Washington County, Ohio, July 24, 1839, a son of Asa and Elizabeth (Fulcher) Harris.
Many recruits were added to the battery in the early part of 1862, and in December of that year, the command participated in the battles of Fayetteville, Prairie Grove and Illinois Creek, Arkansas, serving in Blunt's Division, Army of the Frontier.
In 1896 he was the nominee of his party for a seat in Congress, but at that time the populists were in full strength in Kansas, and he met with defeat.

As Christians are pushing harder for the fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals, especially the eradication of poverty, United Methodist Bishop Thomas Bickerton said the Nothing But Nets campaign "fits in to the whole issue of eradicating poverty."
With the United Methodists' long experience with malaria work, Elizabeth McKee, director of marketing for the United Nations Foundation, said it was a "natural synergy" for them to join the campaign.
Bickerton is looking to mobilize youth and other ministries in the church to become aware of the inexpensive campaign with such tools as text message updates and a special website through www.UMC.org in conjunction with the campaign's website www.nothingbutnets.net, which was launched Nov. 14.

Captain Zacheus Gower's company of the Sixth Kansas Cavalry was, by order dated December 31, 1861, transferred to the Fourth Kansas Volunteers and assigned as Company D. All other companies of the Fourth Kansas retained their original designation.
