  Thomas Carter Chapter, DAR
The Thomas Carter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was organized at Mt. Cross, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, January 20, 1936, with Mrs.
He was the great grandson of Thomas Carter, Ist, of Barford, England, and his wife, Catherine Dale, the daughter of Major Edward Dale and his wife, Lady Diana Skipwith, daughter of Sir Henry Skipworth of Prestwould, England.
In the spirit of restlessness which was driving men westward, Thomas Carter moved again, bringing his family and household goods to Pittsylvania County, VA, where in 1783 he purchased a plantation, which he called "Green Rock." In 1797, 1798, and 1802, Thomas Carter had grants for 1,193 more acres of land in Pittsylvania County.
