Thomas McBride came under the teaching of B. Stone in Kentucky, moved to Missouri in 1816, and was the first Christian preacher who crossed the Mississippi River to preach the Bible alone as the basis of Christian union.
Thomas McBride was among the first buried in the cemetery that bears his name because it was established in 1857, the year of his death.
The deceased was born in Virginia in 1777, and emigrated to Oregon from Missouri in 1847.

Thomas Crawford is remembered by the U.S. Senate not for any political accomplishments, but for his central role as the sculptor of neoclassical figural groups for the U.S. Capitol.
Crawford's massive Progress of Civilization fills the pediment above the east front of the Senate wing, while a marble copy (the badly deteriorated original was removed in 1974) of his Justice and History surmounts the Senate doors of the east portico.

Thomas Gibson Crawford (March 22, 1813/14 – October 10, 1857) was a sculptor who was born in New York City, the son of Aaron and Mary (Gibson) Crawford.
Crawford died of cancer, in London, where he had gone for treatment on October 10, 1857 before Freedom was completed, and another artist finished the fine details.
His only son was the writer Francis Marion Crawford.

First among these was a marble pediment, bearing life-size figures symbolical of the progress of American civilization; next in order came a bronze figure of Liberty, which surmounts the dome; and last of these, and of his life-work, was a bronze dove on which are modeled various scenes in the public life of Washington.
Crawford's works was also his statue of an Indian chief, much admired by the English sculptor Gibson, who proposed that a bronze copy of it should be retained in Rome as a lasting monument.
