He was 43 years old when he committed the Dunblane massacre, the spree killing of 16 small children and a teacher in a primary school, and subsequently committed suicide.
Hamilton, who had a history of interest in guns, was the legal owner of the firearms used in the shooting and a popular member of local gun clubs.
