Topic: Thomas Ice

  Preterism defended vs Thomas Ice
Ice proceeds with a rather strained effort to argue that Luke 21:20-24, which he admits was fulfilled in the first century, is not actually a parallel to the verses in the same places in Mark and Matthew.
Ice here opts for a view that is not surprise, and which is not entirely unreasonable, that is, that the words imply a "sudden" or surprising coming, not a "soon" one.
Ice is significantly overstating the implications of preterism.

Julius Ice, whose brother is charged with first-degree murder, was sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail for violating a protection order against a witness in the homicide investigation.
Ice, 27, was arrested in June after he went to the home of a woman who had a protection order against him.
Julius Ice's attorney, Mariclaire Thomas, argued that her client was not at the woman's house because of the homicide investigation but because he wanted to work out problems in their relationship.

On Thin Ice: How Thomas Ice Refutes a Future Great Tribulation
Thomas Ice is a nationally recognized representative of the Dispensational Premillennial view of eschatology.
Ice holds the preterist view that the Luke 21:20-24 passage is fulfilled; he then contradicts himself, perhaps unknowingly, claiming Matthew's account was not fulfilled.
Therefore, Ice either must concede both passages to the preterist view, admitting the Great Tribulation is fulfilled, or recant on his view that Luke 21:20-24 is fulfilled so as to consistently maintain that the events described never came to pass.

The very fact that Lahaye and Ice feel, they know, that the preterist movement is growing so rapidly, becoming such a threat to dispensationalism, that they felt the necessity for a book refuting this movement is proof that they are on the run and the Truth is making serious inroads.
Ice says that all this means is, "The gospel has come, or been introduced to the Colossian believers, just as it has come, or been introduced, in all the world.
Amazingly, Ice said this, "I do not have a problem with Gentry's understanding of these passages as they are used in the Old Testament." So, in his debate with Gentry, Ice was forced to admit that God's used metaphoric language to describe the Day of the Lord and God's actions in history.

Ice insisted that the Great Commission awaits fulfillment during the so-called future Seven Year Tribulation period, that will, according to the millennial posit, be the final week of Daniel's Seventy Week countdown.
Thomas Ice, (and most millennialists), says, "I believe the Scriptures teach that Israel could have obtained her much sought after Messianic kingdom by recognizing Jesus as the Messiah.
According to Ice, the first 69 weeks of Daniel ended "March 30th, A.D. 33," and we are still awaiting the restarting of the prophetic clock.

 [No title]
Ice in his main argument surprisingly hardly mentioned Matthew 24 at all, but preferred to spend most of his time in the Old Testament, basing his proof on a future Tribulation by stating that the Old Testament predicts a tribulation followed by the deliverance of Israel, not their judgment.
So Ice sets up a straw man, the issue between Gentry and Ice is not whether or not "Israel" or the "elect" are delivered, but who the identity of those designates are, which is a different issue entirely (to which I would also add the identity of "Jerusalem").
Ice, however, does not deal with the context of Matthew, nor rebut Gentry's characterization of such a context which speaks not of the deliverance of ethnic Israel, but rather her judgment.

Concerning Miss Macdonald, Ice well knew during the 1980's that several of my books had been emphasizing her main point: that part of the church [partial rapturism] would be raptured before the revealing of Antichrist.
Ice knew that Marotta's brief, one-sided discussion of that empire was potentially dangerous because researchers could easily be drawn to it and then discover Marotta's brazen twisting of facts.
Marotta and Ice have drawn support for their anti-Macdonald crusade from even Columba G. Flegg, an ecumenical Greek Orthodox priest in England whose work 'Gathered Under Apostles' (Oxford Univ. Press, 1992) dishonestly portrays pretrib development among those in the early Irvingite orbit.

Thomas Ice and the Time Texts - G.D. "By never raising the issue of how the second person plural ("you") is used throughout Matthew 10, he is counting on his loyal readers not to notice.
I would be willing to wager that Ice's analysis of Matthew 24:14 is the first time any dispensationalist has attempted to reconcile this passage with global-language passages which indicate that the gospel had been preached to the "whole world" before Jerusalem was destroyed in A.D. 70 (Col. 1:6, 23; Rom.
"Ice tries to distinguish Jesus' use of "this generation" in Matthew 23:36 from the same phrase in 24:34 on the basis that 23:36 is "historical" while 24:34 is "prophetical." Bute note: (1) Both are prophetic.
