During the summer of that year, working with borrowed and improvised equipment, he conceived and built the first electronic circuit in which all of the components, both active and passive, were fabricated in a single piece of semiconductor material half the size of a paper clip.
It was a relatively simple device that Jack Kilby showed to a handful of co-workers gathered in TI's semiconductor lab more than 40 years ago -- only a transistor and other components on a slice of germanium.
Little did this group of onlookers know that Kilby's invention was about to revolutionize the electronics industry.

He was asking for info on a Thomas Kilby from Culpeper, Va. My "Great grandmother" was also a Kilby from Culpeper and her Grandfather was Thomas Kilby.
Her sister in-law, Winnifred Kilby placed 3 of Mary's children in a Catholic Orphanage, and took the youngest son, John and raised him as her own, but changed his last name to (Bowens).
The Kilby name comes from my grandmothers maiden name and there's a belief there is alot of fisherman and others I can't think of.
