The villages of West Langton and East Langton lie on the southern slopes of the ridge, close to Church Langton; Thorpe Langton is at the eastern end, nearest to the river, and Tur Langton is on the western side of the ridge, north of Church Langton.
A field on Langton Caudle, (Footnote 77) which belongs to the manor-house farm and is now in the parish of Welham, used to be part of Thorpe Langton parish and was allotted to J. Roberts, the lord of the manor, at the inclosure of 1792.
In 1719 the house of Daniel Knight at Thorpe Langton was licensed as a meetingplace for dissenters.

Successively Provost of the Queen's College, Oxford and Bishop of St. David's, Salisbury and Winchester, Langton, a northerner, had been in favour with Richard III and one of his immediate entourage.
Langton must have trimmed his sails to Henry's wind, but he had a Yorkist background, had not been guilty of treason, and might have proved a witness to the truth.
Not only was he restored by Henry VII, but in 1500 he was nominated by the crown to succeded John Morton as Archbishop of Canterbury but died of the plague before his translation could be perfected.

The poor of Kirkham were officially entitled to a free education in the free grammar school adjoining the parish church, bit in practice it demanded a certain standard of knowledge and social appearance for admittance and its emphasis was on the classical side of education.
Langton Birley's cousin Edmund was on the health committee and in 1852 an inspector of lodging houses was appointed.
After 1839 the school was managed by Mrs Ann Birley, a member of the Langton family who was now the wife of Thomas Birley, an in 1870 plans were passed for new school buildings to be erected in Poulton Street at the cost of their son Thomas Langton Birley.

Langton was only eight when he succeeded his grandfather, Sir Thomas Langton, baron of Newton in Macclesfield, to about 27,000 acres of land, some 600 houses and the parliamentary patronage of the borough.
Langton's attempt to recover them in a nocturnal raid ended with the death of Houghton, and one other, and severe injury to Langton.
Langton died at Westminster on 20 Feb 1605, having apparently been reconciled to the Catholic Church by John Gerard.
