  William Thomas Lowndes - LoveToKnow 1911
WILLIAM THOMAS LOWNDES (1798-1843), English bibliographer, was born about 1798, the son of a London bookseller.
Lowndes, reduced to poverty, subsequently became cataloguer to Henry George Bohn, the bookseller and publisher.
Lowndes died on the 31st of July 1843.

THOMAS LOWNDES (1692-1748), founder of the Lowndean professorship of astronomy at Cambridge university, England, was born in 1692, both his father and mother being Cheshire landowners.
In 1725 he was appointed provost marshal of South Carolina, a post he preferred to fill by deputy.
In 1727 Lowndes claimed to have taken a prominent part in inducing the British government to purchase Carolina, but he surrendered his patent when the transfer of the colony to the crown was completed.

Burke has nothing to indicate how Thomas Lowndes himself got hold of the property, nor does Burke show any relationship to the Lowndes of Whaddon and Chesham who would indeed have inherited it when the male Barrington line expired in 1832.
From Thomas Lowndes it passed eventually to his sister's great grandson, G A Clayton who took the name of Lowndes on inheriting the property.
Clayton has "John Barrington married Elizabeth, the daughter of his guardian Thomas Bonham, and his wife Catherine, sister and heir of Henry Lord Marney, Knight of the Garter." Other records show that Catherine was the daughter of Henry KG and that her brother was John.
