Fear grips Alberta Tory party as Morton continues charge from the right - November 28, 2006 - Canadaeast.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Among the dire warnings was one from veteran cabinet minister Gary Mar, who predicted the party's 35-year stranglehold on power in Alberta would end should Morton, a first-term backbencher, become premier.
Thomas Lukaszuk, a Tory backbencher from Edmonton, said a Morton win would trigger a major split within the party that would force him to rethink his own future.
Lukaszuk said Morton's interests are narrowly focused on issues such as renegotiating Alberta's place in Confederation, reopening debate on the Canada Health Act and reopening discussion on the definition of marriage - all of which are not under provincial jurisdiction.

Instead of merely lobbying the school board and province to pay for it, Lukaszuk promoted a shared high school between the Catholic and the public boards.
There's clearly a future need for a school, as 350 Catholic students are being bused out of the area to facilities as far away as St. Joseph high school, which is downtown.
Lukaszuk has also been promoting the notion of the cities of St. Albert and Edmonton sharing the costs of a multi-use recreational facility "literally on the border" of our larger city.
