Playford's mission was the economic development of South Australia: he encouraged secondary industry to relocate to the state with multiple incentives and concessions, and in under thirty years converted a predominantly rural-based economy to a thriving industrial base, while still maintaining strong agricultural development.
Playford was a skilled administrator with a prodigious memory, who used these talents to control Parliament: in the eyes of the general public, he was the government.
Playford resigned as leader of the LCL in 1966 and left the House of Assembly in 1968.

Thomas Playford IV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Playford was born on July 5, 1896 on the family farm in the hills overlooking Adelaide.
Following an electoral redistribution, Playford was elected to the constituency of Gumeracha on 19 March 1938 and was appointed Minister of Irrigation, Minister of Repatriation and Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Playford could point at the economic growth of the state as a reason for his continued election as Premier but he could also thank a gerrymander of his devising, known locally as a `Playmander', for his hold on power.

The “new way” itself, the sole contribution of the book to the sum of contemporary musical knowledge, is a rule of thumb for the harmonisation of a continuous piece of vocal or instrumental music, given the bass and the first chord.
But, apart from the value, such as it is, of this discovery, no doubt the book served as a useful compendium for the musical student, and it was very popular, being several times reprinted in Playford’s Introduction to the Skill of Musicke.

John Playford's background and his book's dedication to "The Gentlemen of the Innes of Court, whose sweet and ayry Activity has crowned their Grand Solemnities with Admiration to all Spectators" shows he was aiming his book at the gentry (one could hardly expect to get rich by selling books to peasants after all!).
Certainly Playford's collection of dances had rustic origins, otherwise he would not have described them as "Country" but his book probably presents the formalised versions used by the gentry rather than the rustic ones.
On the other hand we know that the Nobility danced with the commoners so perhaps the dances are not too far removed from their rural origins after all.

Adelaide - Search View - ninemsn Encarta
On the eve of the world economic depression in the 1930s, Adelaide's almost exclusively rural economy was critically vulnerable and it was hit very hard.
However, 32 years of Liberal-Country League (LCL) conservative government (1933-1965) and the long personal ascendancy of Thomas Playford (1938-1965), the LCL's most famous figure in that period, produced growing prosperity and political stability for Adelaideans, during which the provision of power for industrial purposes and the range and variety of secondary industries developed considerably.
After World War II, under the Playford regime, industrial diversification transformed the economy.

Firstly, where others have chosen to play the tune quickly with repeats on the A and B parts and to dance the dance slowly (with just two steps per bar), my preference is to play the tune slowly without repeats and to march it briskly.
