 Thor
Descended from Norse gods and raised in the hallowed halls of Asgard, Thor nearly precipitated a war by violating a truce with his family's ancient enemy: the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, one of the nine worlds of the Asgardian cosmology.
Thor is forever torn between his divine home, Asgard, and the troubled lands of his adopted world, Earth.
Thor soon reclaimed his power, but nearly was killed in battle with the metallic menace known as the Destroyer.

Meanwhile, Thor engaged Surtur at Asgard's gates, and was overwhelmed by the fire-demon.
Thor returned to the past and gave his 200 years of memories to his younger self as a warning, before rejoining him with his human side, who then returned the Asgardians to the true Asgard.
Thor then did the unthinkable, making a deal with Surtur: in return for the reforging of Mjolnir (he felt it appropriate for Surtur to be the one to remake it), he would blast a clear path for him to Asgard.

Thor (often called The Mighty Thor) is a Marvel Comics superhero, based on the thunder god of Norse mythology.
Thor often battled his evil adoptive brother Loki, a Marvel character adapted from the Norse god of mischief, and was a member of the superhero group the Avengers.
Thor is here rather correctly put, as the honest, red bearded muscular, powerful god, with a bit of extra human weaknesses to keep the comic funny.

Thor knows that to give his people the glory they have earned, he must sever the thread, and thus end the existence of himself, Asgard, and in turn, Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, the Gods of Gods who have manipulated them since the dawn of time.
Thor rejects the praise, and the greater gods themselves, as he slashes the tapestry, ending all of Asgard's existence.
Thor's people were denied their ultimate glory for thousands of years: their right to rest in peace, and to have their memories held on high.

Last year, the new Editor-in-Chief and the new President of Marvel comics decreed that all regular December 2001 titles would be written without any dialogue, captions, or sound effects.
To complicate matters, there would be no company-wide crossover to explain the absence of writing–the creators had to find a reason to tell a silent story over the course of their regular plotlines (which is probably why the creators were given so much lead time).

It became hard to reconcile the lame doctor with Thor's eons-old relationships with his fellow deities, so a retcon was concocted by way of explanation: Blake had been Thor all along, sentenced by Odin to inhabit a less magnificent body, his memory erased, until he got over his rather insufferable pride.
Thor has maintained active participation in the group fairly steadily over the years, and even now, frequently appears as part of it.
But in the comic books where he was born, he has been a prominent part of the Marvel Universe since its very early days — and retains that position even now.

Thor discovers that he must continually hold the hammer to remain Thor (after 60 seconds without contact, Thor will change back into Blake, although the hammer will remain), and that by striking the hammer against the ground, both he and the hammer return to their original shape.
After a mighty struggle, Thor finally succeeded in lifting the hammer with his froggy frame, and with a flash of lightning, there stood a fighting mad six-foot-six frog in Thor’s costume, and soon the green slimy god of thunder was off to Asgard to track down his scheming half-brother.
In recent months, Thor has ascended to the throne of Asgard after the death of his father, and has elected to no longer leave the mortals of Earth to their own devices, but instead to use their power to help humanity, whether it likes it or not.

The problem with Thor is that he's simply so powerful, it's not only hard for the reader to empathise with him, but it's hard to create a sense of threat towards him.
Loki's arrival is crucial in Thor's transformation, not only because it is the beginning of taking the Norse mythology angle seriously (and the Thor comics would provide a scholarly fidelity to the subject), but also because the god of mischief became Thor's major foe.
