Primary schools from as far apart as Berwick upon Tweed and Wedmore in Somerset took part.
The award-winning schools were congratulated by Charles Saumarez Smith, Director of the National Gallery, and Co-Chairman of Museums and Galleries Month, who chaired the judging panel.

We have planted the Thornhill Tree for Life Garden 2005 in our school grounds.
Our project also won the prestigious Making Waves in your Community as the Best Environmental Project 2005 for a Senior school which was awarded by Northumbrian Water and the Young Peoples Trust for the Environment.
The whole school were involved - staff, pupils, office staff, cleaners, partner schools Barbara Priestman and Seaview who raised the money for the trees in a variety of ways and then helped me plant them all.

 The Museum in the Classroom Awards
For three years the school has used their museum to illustrate the work in History.
The school decided to create its own Aztec Exhibition as they could not afford to visit; they watched a video and using the Museum Pack created interactive exhibits; the children acted as experts so visitors (pupils and parents) could ask questions.
The children were incredibly motivated by the idea of the exhibition - it allowed for a cross curricula approach that enhanced the children's understanding and enabled all of them to take part.

Wye is a popular village school, founded by Lady Joanna Thornhill who was lady-in-waiting to Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II.
She was the great granddaughter of Sir Richard Grenville and widow of Colonel Richard Thornhill of Olantigh in Wye.
