All three albums were recently reissued as part the band's 30th anniversary series, remastered in 24-bit by Fripp himself.
Three of a Perfect Pair is the most commercial of the 3 CDs.
Three of a Perfect Pair falls somewhere in between the other two, but is still recommended.

Not to fear: Perfect Pair is the same KC we all know: expansive, loopy, and miles, miles, miles away from being a pop group.

Criminally underrated, 1984's "Three of A Perfect Pair" showcases the '80s band at their absolute best - whether it be on poppy numbers or experimental numbers. The album is split into two sides - the first side is Belew's side, with several poppy numbers, while the second side isundoubtedly Fripp's, with lots of instrumentals and soundscapes.
At live shows from the era, Levin basically took command of three instruments for this song - bass, stick, and bass pedals.

King Crimson : Absent Lovers: Live in Montreal 1984 - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
After three years and four albums, the '80s incarnation of King Crimson, featuring Adrian Belew (guitar/vocals/drums), Bill Bruford (drums/percussion), Robert Fripp (guitar) and Tony Levin (bass/stick/synth/vocal) wrapped up their initial collaborative efforts at the conclusion of their 1984 North American tour.
Belew's versatility is prominent as he counters with the gorgeous "Matte Kudasai," the surreal automobile anthem "Dig Me" and the intricately entwined melodies heard in "Frame by Frame," "Three of a Perfect Pair" and "Elephant Talk." The formidable rhythm section are accounted for with Levin commanding the lower registers and providing the occasional backing vocal.
Overall, Absent Lovers is a perfect way for enthusiasts to remember this aggregate or for the curious to hear what all the fuss is about.

Belew’s vocals are wonderful and the album version is almost as good as the version from Absent Lovers: Crimson’s last live recording for almost a decade.
As you’ve no doubt guessed Frame By Frame is simply a favourite and one hard to explain, it’s imply a delicious track that works by virtue of magnificent musicians’ complementing one another perfectly to create something that is far more than the sum of its parts despite the fact that the parts are gorgeous regardless.
It’s modern and yet of it’s time and for that’s perfect, all cultural artefacts (forgive the term) bring with them a sense, an idea, of the time that they were created and Discipline certainly does this and at the same time it is effortlessly creative and thoroughly seductive.

The three remixes of Sleepless are interesting but hardly essential.Kervokian's has the most life to it and reimagines the song in dancable, thought provoking ways.
Bonus tracks are extensive this time around, including the three "Sleepless" remixes, two of "Industry" (one of the instrumentals), and "The King Crimson Barbershop"-- this is superb, Tony Levin sings the history of the band in barbershop form.
Really I think the better material on "Three of a Perfect Pair" is among the best the band has done, but it is a bit uneven.

Ground and Sky review - King Crimson - Absent Lovers
Being the tour after the Three of a Perfect Pair album, I suppose it only makes sense that it is the most represented of the 80s works.
In fact, it was my introduction to some of the songs from Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair, which I didn't own at the time I bought Absent Lovers (an error which has since been corrected).
Most of the material is from the three releases by this lineup (Discipline, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair) and includes "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" and "Red".

King Crimson Three Of A Perfect Pair [Remastered]
THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR ended the band's '80s trilogy in a logical fashion.
One of the trademarks of Crimson from 1969 onward was drastic dynamic shifts and the juxtaposition of daring, experimental excursions with appealingly melodic "pop" ballads.

Three songs do not warrant purchase of an album, but if you happen to run across this for a good price, check out the title track, "Sleepless" and "Nuages." But the rest of this can be tossed in the pile with the other failed trilogy closers.

These haphazard bits and pieces were recorded during a two-week confab held by King Crimson in early 1983 between the Beat (1982) and Three of a Perfect Pair (1984) albums.
Parallels can also be drawn from "Robert and Bill" to "Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part 3." Other pieces, such as the techno-thrash of "San Francisco" or the tight funk developed on "Not One of Those," are frustratingly good snippets that, simply put, lack the direction of a fully realized King Crimson performance.
Then there are tracks in between, such as "ZZZZ's," containing a well-defined groove similar to what the quartet developed on "Sleepless." Yet, the melody seems to hearken back to "Thela Hun Ginjeet" from Discipline (1981) as well as to the title track for Three of a Perfect Pair.

Neal and Jack and Me collects Three of a Perfect Pair: Live in Japan 1984 and The Noise: Live at Frejus 1982 on one DVD, and while some of the technologies date the band, they come off, for the most part, as fresh and timeless as they did twenty years ago.
Nearly two years later, and just a few short months before this version of Crimson would disband until reforming ten years later as the double trio that would record Thrak, Three of a Perfect Pair: Live in Japan 1984 finds the group at their absolute peak.

Since their inception in 1969, King Crimson has consistently defied categorization, while continually being an innovative force in music, influencing generations to come, and paving the way for bands like Nine Inch Nails and Tool.
With an ever-evolving sound that has developed over the four decades that King Crimson has been making music, the prog-rock pioneers moved into a more accessible, pop-driven sound with their album THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR (1984), while still retaining Robert Fripps's stunning guitar work and dynamic stylings.
It also featured more open spaces and texture over the previously tight fretwork to be found on "Discipline" and "Beat." This release includes concert footage from the previously released THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR, as well as "The Noise;" a video of a live performance filmed in France during the group's "Discipline" tour.

The three-album experiment consisted of "Discipline", "Beat" and "Three of a Perfect Pair." A diametrically opposite musical experience from both the melodic, Mellotron-laden early 70s material and the heavy, angular mid-70s material, these three albums introduced cross picking, Guitar Craft, and alternate tuning to the fold.
Disc One provides a healthy sampling of studio material from "Discipline", "Beat" and "Three of a Perfect Pair", plus a few bonus tracks spanning 1982-2004.
A nice inclusion is the oft-overlooked "Man with an Open Heart," originally from "Three of a Perfect Pair."

Absent Lovers: Live In Montreal 1984 | The A.V. Club
Just prior to reconvening King Crimson in 1980, Fripp had begun to explore new-wave and punk music (on his Exposure album), and King Crimson began to reflect those experiments.
While the trio of albums the group released in the first half of that decade (Discipline, Beat, and Three Of A Perfect Pair) are packed with the kind of prodigious playing for which Crimson is both reviled and renowned, the records also contain their fair share of catchy songs.
"Sartori In Tangier" and "Sleepness," in their own way, are pretty funky, and "Three Of A Perfect Pair" and "Elephant Talk" match potent hooks with weird arrangements.
