i've only been throatsinging for a few years, but i enjoy all the styles of khoomei that i've heard, and personally practice the styles karygraa, khoomei and sygyt.
Robert Beahrs' journal, Throat-Singing: In Pursuit of Overtones, is a throatsinging travelogue documenting Robert's journey to rural places around the world where throat-singing or harmonic chanting are traditionally practiced.
Sainkho Namtchylak, a female throatsinger who taught herself khoomei in spite of Tuva's cultural taboo inhibiting women from throat singing.

As a formal musical style, throatsinging is integral to traditional Tuvan culture; almost predictably, it's an endangered form in its own land.
But the technique isn't confined to northern Central Asia; given a world full of people with music in their heads and time on their hands, varieties of overtone singing were certain to be heard elsewhere.
Pena lacked the money for any such journey ("Whenever you can show me a bank that a blind guy can rob, man, I'll be glad to go!"), but with some finagling and the support of Ralph Leighton and the Friends of Tuva he made it to Tuva and won first place in the kargyraa division.

He is fascinated by this singing so he teaches himself how to do it and through a bunch of different circumstances he meets a Tuvan Throatsinger and decides to make a journey to Tuva to compete in a throatsinging competition.
This documentary was actually very interesting to me, to see this very weird throatsinging (picture somone making the sounds of a Diggereedoo, and adding a harmonic sound over top of it at the same time, all with their voices alone), but was also kind of made me sad in a way.
Pena is blind and has been since birth, he is very candid about some of the stuff that blind people have to deal with and how he never really felt like he belonged completely.

His parents live near Albert's relatives in Shagonar (or Rio de Shagoneiro as it is known) near the big lake which was the result of the damming of the Yenisei at Sayano-Shushinskoye in the great gorge to the North.
...until he joined Yat-Kha he was the most under-recorded throatsinger in Tuva.
His first and only experience before that was in 1984 when he went to Leningrad to record.

I found one that reminded me of the cave scene from the movie "Altered States." Then I took a single handclap from the same "Rev Bob" show and tuned it into a drumkit of sorts.
Finally I added a virtual throatsinger mouse instrument and came up with this anomaly below.
Add one guitar solo played on an overdriven effected bass, and voila!
