Balboa is a form of a swing dance that emerged in the 1930s and 1940s.
It is danced with the lead and follow dancing where their chests touch for a body lead connection.
Balboa is also danced to slow music (under 100 beats per minute), which allows more time for intricate footwork and variations.

 Swing Dance Moves
Country Swing is a member of this family of dance, although freestyle emphasizes a smooth and easy style rather than the sometimes fast and abrupt style often seen with Country Swing.
Variation: To be more engaged in the dancing, the other partner who is not turning can step across to the other side, or, taking six beats, the Lead can turn the Follow, and as he steps across, he can turn himself (inside turns work best for this).
This way he can steer her around the dance floor and good tension is present to allow for instant communication for leads into other moves.

West Coast Swing is danced to slower Swing tempos.
It differs from the Eastern versions in that it is what is known as a "Slot Dance"; the lady moves back and forth along a "slot" that remains unchanged throughout the dance, while the man moves into and out of the slot to allow the lady to pass.
It may be danced as a chasse, or, as in the lady's case in throwouts and passes, it may be danced as a progressive run.
