  Thrud
In Norse mythology, Thrud was the daughter of Thor and Jarnsaxa.
Thrud was promised to Alvis, a dwarf, in exchange for which Alvis made weapons for the gods.
Alvis agreed and Thor made the tests last until after the sun had risen--all dwarves turned to stone when exposed to sunlight, so Alvis was petrified and Thrud remained unmarried.

STRIKE TO STUN: Review of Thrud the Barbarian   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08)
Thrud was his name, and from humble beginnings his cartoon strip quickly became one of the best loved pieces in the magazine - in fact it was voted 'most popular feature' for three consecutive years!
While Thrud retains his belligerent yet terminally dense persona - usually terminal to those around him - it is the development of the enveloping story that keeps things interesting.
Whether or not Thrud will have enough legs to be an ongoing concern remains to be seen, as does whether it receives enough interest for a second issue to emerge.

Thrud / Thrudd the Barbarian ( Strength 7 Pinhead ) Plays Blood Bowl !
Thrud only barely understands the rules of Blood Bowl, just enough to know that you are allowed to hit people a lot, and that you must get the leathery ball thing down the other end of the field.
Thrud's throwing skill and coolness score are the same as a Minotaur player, and little better than an Ogre's and a little worse than a Dwarf lineman (all of which have 4th edition Agility's of 2).
Thrud's combined Toughness and Wounds are the same as a 1E Ogre, so we agreed on Armour of 9, but also to give Thrud, Thick Skull as a mitigator.

 TRS2: Thrud The Barbarian #1
For many years, Thrud ran as a one page strip in White Dwarf magazine (during the period known by its readers as 'before White Dwarf was crap').
Thrud, standing about 8 feet tall, with a huge exaggerated physique, an enormous axe, and a very, very small head bashed and battled his way through a series of comic misadventures.
While Thrud marched through the strips striking Frazetta-style poses, hacking and slashing monsters into bits, the strip's pay off would often be quite understated - a sight-gag made all the more funny by a follow-up good line for instance.

SAVANT:: Sounds Crazy When You Say It
THRUD THE BARBARIAN, his Conan-esque stories of the world's least intelligent and smallest headed barbarian appeared monthly in WHITE DWARF magazine, were regularly voted the best feature of the magazine and remain, even today, a textbook example of how to tell a story well within a single page.
THRUD is not GROO despite initial appearances to the contrary.

Kieron Gillen’s Workblog » Ninth Art: Thrud   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08)
THRUD THE BARBARIAN was created in 1981 when Carl Critchlow was in art college (under the auspices of Bryan Talbot - random factlets grabbed from the internet, fans), making its debut in the fanzines.
From there it moved to the place which secured THRUD a place in the heart of anyone who spent a portion of the 80s with mild lead poisoning and high on paint fumes: The Golden Age of Games Workshop’s RPG-bible White Dwarf.
Thrud takes me back to a more feather-cut time, so it’s perfect for the now.

STRIKE TO STUN : Thrud the Barbarian # 2   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08)
Carl Critchlow's second offering of Thrud continues in the same vein as the debut issue, with a pulp-fantasy pastiche that allows our favourite knuckle-headed barbarian to engage in mindless slaughter whilst remaining blissfully unaware of the unfolding storyline.
While it was all too easy to like Thrud because of its resurrection of a favourite of the gaming community, there always was going to be a danger that Thrud might not pan out too well over a full comic.
Saying this, there are those who enjoy Thrud without any clever allusions, and to this majority I can only say that you will love #2.

I was emailed this morning and told that Thrud has to be removed from the PBBL rules.
While Carl probably would not have a problem with leaving Thrud in Blood Bowl, Games Workshop cannot be seen to infringe on other's IP when GW so aggressively pursues its own.
but was told that the stats of Thrud were well available to the public and thus GW's opinion of IP infringement included the stats of the LRB Thrud.
