 Thrust- Pool Book Review
The book is about how Richard Noble moved away from his apparent destiny in the army to pursue his dream of attempting to break the land speed record.
What is remarkable is the lack of enthusiasm from British industry for a project which not only carries high prestige value but has the promise of substantial research learning for the parties involved.
Despite the track record with Thrust2, the battle for funding remained difficult to the extent that the project was permanently on a knife-edge and could have had to be finished almost at any point when the cash dried up.

Richard Noble - The Projects   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The Thrust2 programme started with the objective of regaining the World land Speed record - an achievement which had been dominated by the British since the 1920s, and then lost in the 1960s when the traditional competition, the Americans, switched to jet powered cars and took the record from 400mph to 600mph in 18 months.
The Thrust2 programme started with just £175, the capital realised from the sale of the very dangerous Thrust 1 car to a scrapyard after a major crash in 1974.
During the programme Richard and Thrust2 had exceeded 600mph 11 times and at peak speed (650,88mph) the car was just 4 mph away from catastrophic take off.
