  Thug Behram Famous Serial Killers
Thug Behram (or Buhram), of the cult in India known as the Thuggee cult, is deemed as the world’s most prolific serial killer.
It was later said that Behram was merely present during the 931 murders as he was the leader of the Thuggee cult.
Behram’s statements have never been verified and Thug never went to trial for any of the murders due to the fact of having turned King’s Evidence and agreed to inform on his companions.

The original source for Behram's 'confession' is a manuscript on Thuggee written by James Paton, an East India Company officer working for the Thuggee and Dacoity Office in the 1830s.
In addition, Behram's statement is unverified and Thug never stood trial for any of the murders he confessed to, having turned King's Evidence and agreed to inform on his companions.
Since Behram's alleged murders were committed in the course of a 40-year career, and since it was in Thug informers' interests to make themselves appear as important as possible to their British captors, it is not certain whether any specific total number of killings can be attributed to this one murderer.

In the early 19th century, Thug Behram, a gang leader of the Thugs (a religious cult of assassins worshipping the Hindu goddess Kali), murdered a total of 931 people in his 40-year career as a serial killer.
The Thugs became notorious and the word "thug" eventually entered the English language to refer to low lives.
And of course, Jack the Ripper, although he was nowhere near as notorious as Thug Behram (931 kills is a bit too much even for a serial killer).

Re: Censorship of Students' Union Magazines/Newspapers
Can we add 2 **'s in the swear words in one of the articles and in the Fact Injection page can we change the words "Behram, an Indian thug, holds holds the record for most murders by a singe individual." to "Behram, from India" etc.
Plus it's hard to get the students to rally to support you on an issue like this if they don't know the union exists, which the first issue would help change.
I therefore suggested a compromise - 1 * in the swearing and a change to "Behram, a thug from India".

Between 1790 and 1830 Thug Behram allegedly took part in the murder of 931 people by strangulation, later confessing to have personally strangled 125 of this total.
He committed these killings as a member of the Thuggee cult, to which between 50,000 and 2,000,000 deaths in India are attributed.

It's interesting to note that probably the most prolific "spiritual" serial killer is said to be Behram, who murdered at least 931 people by strangulation from 1790-1840.
He was a member of the Thuggee cult (where our word "thug" originates) who worshipped Kali, and murder by strangulation was apparently how they showed their devotion to her.
The bad guys in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom were based (probably pretty loosely) on the thuggee cult of Kali.
