	The Hindu : Kerala News : Concern over dam proximity to Silent Valley
		According to the local people, the dam site at Nilikkal is known as Sairandhripuzha as the entire area comes under the Sairandhri forests forming part of the park.
		After Nilikkal, the area is known as Pathrakadavu and further down, the river is called Kunthipuzha where it joins the Thuthapuzha to form the Bharathapuzha.
		Tony Thomas, an environmentalist, told The Hindu that if the dam was constructed at Nilikkal, all the three major waterfalls of the Kunti river would be lost.

		Its four main tributaries are Gayatripuzha, Kannadipuzha, Kalpathypuzha and Thuthapuzha.
		Thuthapuzha other wise known as Pilanthol river, starts from the Silent Valley hills and joins the main river about two kilometers.
		The important streams, which feed this tributary, are Kunthipuzha, Kanjirapuzha, Ambankadavu and Thuppanadipuzha.

		Since 1983, this is the first time that the river has dried up in most of its stretches.
		Its tributaries like the Kannadipuzha, Kalpathipuzha, Gayathripuzha and Thuthapuzha have also dried up, resulting in acute drinking water shortage in parts of Palakkad, Thrissur and Malappuram districts.
		The non-implementation of the 18 major recommendations of the Expert Committee on Bharathapuzha constituted by the Kerala Government in 1994 has led to the present scenario.

		In a statement today it warned that the project would do as much harm to the biodiversity rich Silent Valley as the original project would have.
		A meeting of the representatives of 25 grama panchayats in Palakkad and Malappuram districts, that use the waters of Kunthi and Thuthapuzha rivers, in a meeting held at Cherpulassery today opposed the move to construct the Pathrakadavu hydro electric project across the Kunthi river in the Silent Valley forest area.
		The Indian Airlines Bahrain-Doha-Kozhikode-Kochi flight (IC 998) skipped Kozhikode and landed at Kochi airport due to bad weather.
