		Thyrfing was formed in 1995 by Patrik Lindgren (guitar), Jocke Kristensson (drums), Peter Löf (keyboard) and Kimmy Sjölund (bass guitar).
		To support the album, Thyrfing played during the winter two support gigs (for Freedom Call and Dismember) in Stockholm, and did a small headliner tour in Benelux with Cruachan and Shadowbreed.
		Thyrfing entered EMI studios on April 18, 2005, to record their new album, Farsotstider ("Times of Plague"), which was released on November 21, 2005.

		Early on, with their eponymous debut in 1998, Thyrfing practiced a strain of Viking metal that cobbled together an early-'90s Norse fl attack with those rousing, pint- and sword-raising melodies Wotan'd be proud of — imminently enjoyable, but maybe a bit too enamoured with Blood Fire Death-era Bathory.
		Well, Thyrfing (pronounce "surfing" with a mouthful of coleslaw) still craft hymns to the olden ones, but on their latest Urkraft offering, the Swedish sextet up-ratchets their craft more than a few notches, lathering on a goodly deal of atmospherics, ornamentation, and variation to an already tightly wound sound.
		At the end of the day, though, Thyrfing are still a record or two short of upping the ante on the absolutely unfuckwithable Enslaved, or at the very least, Mithotyn or Einherjer, but they're sure to please hordes of berzerkers the world over, this writer included.

		I was not exceptionally amazed with the final result that time but with "Farsotstider" the band seems to have taken the time necessary to adapt to their new musical direction and their 5th album is no doubt one of the most impressive metal albums that have surfaced during 2005.
		It is extremely difficult to evolve and progress within such a limited genre but Thyrfing have managed to renew themselves with each new release, something that I appreciate greatly, being showered in music that sounds almost exactly the same each day.
		This time Thyrfing occupied the working hours of producer Henrik Edenhed, a man who has previously worked with well-known acts like Lambretta, Kent and The Sounds, resulting in the most clear and massive sound ever in the history of the band.

	Thyrfing Hammerheart - 1998
		Thyrfing are a Swedish viking metal band who use heavy, agressive, rocky riffs and cheesy synth to conjure the spirit of the high seas.
		Thyrfing have a fairly energetic and powerful sound with a strong production but lack the neo folk pagan atmospheres typical to the genre.
		Apart from their artwork, lyrics, and a few medieval style synth passages Thyrfing could easily be overlooked as a b grade synth flmetal band due to their lack of obvious viking sounding music.

		The band is named for a royal sword of Norse mythology.
		From the beginning the band was meant to be a side project as Patrik & Jocke put their main force into their other band Pantheon.

		Patrik: Thyrfing was formed sometime during the spring of 1995.
		Nevertheless, we decided to form a project-band were we switched instruments (in Pantheon I played bass, Thomas drums and Jocke guitars and vocals) and with the addition of two other members (Peter and Kimmy), Thyrfing was born.
		Funny you mention it, ‘cause there actually were talk about a musical project with members of Thyrfing, Moonsorrow and Primordial, but after all, nothing turned out of it lack of time and practical problems from all parts I guess In retrospective it never became more than talk, and maybe one riff or something ha-ha
