Rara in the Artibonite Valley of Haiti
There, famous rara bands like La Sainte Rose and Ti Malice dress in heavily sequined outfits, and include in each band an individual known as the majo jonk, a sort of juggler who carries two weighted batons, with which he performs ceremonial gestures.
These zombi are held to be potentially quite dangerous, so before a rara band sets out from the lakou, or compound, of the Mambo or Bokor in charge, complicated ceremonies are held.
These ceremonies inevitably involve the manufacture of protective charms, usually composed of human bone fragments and other ingredients tied into cloth bags and worn on the upper arms of rara members.

Guinéo, son of Ti-Coyo, is a Martinique moppet with the congenital amorality of a growing barracuda.
