Tidal force - Space Wiki - a Wikia wiki
All parts of the Earth accelerate in response to the moon's gravitational forces, but to an observer on the Earth, it appears that the Earth's center remains at rest, while water in the oceans is redistributed to form bulges on the sides near the moon and far from the moon.
For a given (externally generated) gravitational field, the tidal acceleration at a point with respect to a body is obtained by vectorially subtracting the gravitational acceleration at the center of the body from the actual gravitational acceleration at the point.
Tidal effects become particularly pronounced near small bodies of high mass, such as neutron stars or fl holes, where they are responsible for the "spaghettification" of infalling matter.

Acceleration Think piece @ LaunchBase.net (Launch Base)   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Acceleration is the time rate of change of velocity, and at any point on a v-t graph, it is given by the slope of the tangent to that point
In SI units, acceleration is measured in metres/second².
a is the acceleration vector (as acceleration is a vector, it must be described with both a direction and a magnitude.

 Tides and May 5, 2000
I calculated the tidal influence of each planet at the Earth over the course of several centuries using standard almanac algorithms (only a few decades are presented here).
The tidal acceleration is proportional to the mass of the planet, inversely proportional to the distance cubed, and also depends on direction.
Since the tidal force is inversely proportional to distance cubed, the close approaches between Venus and Earth are by far the most important factor in determining the net planetary tide at Earth.

 Tides
Tidal forces are credited for a number of phenomena including ocean tides, precession of the equinoxes, volcanoes on Io, the Moon’s locked rotation, and decay of the Moon’s orbit.
Tidal forces are dependent on the difference in acceleration around the body.
The variation in local gravity caused by the tidal acceleration is identical to the effect of decreasing the planetary mass.

A relatively new technology development, tidal stream generators draw energy from underwater currents in much the same way that wind generators are powered by the wind.
Tidal stream technology is at the very early stages of development though and will require significantly more research before it becomes a significant contributor to electrical generation needs.
For example, in the UK in 2003, a 300 kW Seaflow marine current propeller type turbine was tested off the north coast of Devon, and a 150 kW oscillating hydroplane device, the Stingray, was tested off the Scottish coast.

 Future Salons - Overview
Cosmic history as known to date (ie, the Cosmic Calendar) provides strong evidence that accelerating change is an inevitable constant in our universe.
It is evident to many social observers that the ongoing, accelerating computer revolution will have an enormous and unprecedented impact on the human environment in coming decades.
Those who write with the greatest depth about this accelerating computational complexity—and its approximate growth metrics, such as information doubling rates and "Moore's Law"—suspect it to be an inexorable universal developmental process.

 Approaching the Black Hole
The tidal force, the difference in the gravitational force between between your head and your toes, is now at 1g.
The tidal force increases rapidly as we free-fall inward.
It emits Hawking radiation, which is thermal flbody radiation, produced by quantum mechanical effects: the strong gravitational acceleration near the fl hole modifies vacuum fluctuations.
