  World Wide Words: Tiddlywinks
At the time — presumably the eighteenth or early nineteenth century — the slang term for an unlicensed beer-house of this sort was tiddlywink (sometimes kiddlywink) and the name came in time to be attached to the hamlet as a whole.
It may be that the first element is a variation on an even older term tiddy for something small, which would make a tiddlywink a small drink (I was side-tracked at this point in my investigation by finding another sense in the OED for tiddy: “In the game of gleek, the four of trumps”.
The name of the game of tiddlywinks is even more obscure and turns up in print only in 1857, later than the drink sense.

Tiddlywinks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tiddlywinks is a game played with sets of small, thin discs (called winks) lying on a surface, usually a felt mat.
In 1958, Cambridge students challenged Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (later to become Chancellor of the University in 1976) to a tiddlywinks match.
Much like snooker, croquet and curling, not only is physical skill required for wink placement, there is considerable strategy involved in preventing the opponent from making his best move.

Almost everyone will, at some point in their childhood, have been given a compendium of games which included a little plastic pot, probably with a cardboard target around it, and some small plastic discs to be flicked at it.
The key elements in adding depth to the game were the standardisation of the pieces and playing surface, the development of a points scoring system, and giving the game a defensive element.
The consumption of beer is a large part of tiddlywinks tradition, and games immediately after lunch are often given an extra dimension by the advanced inebriation of one or both players.
