		Tieflings are planetouched — descended from evil creatures of the outer planes — demons, devils, evil deities and other evil creatures.
		In the 3rd Edition of Dungeons and Dragons, less common varieties of the tiefling were introduced, including a dwarven counterpart, the Maeluth and a halfling counterpart, the Wispling.
		Tieflings tend to have an unsettling air about them, and most people are uncomfortable around them, whether they are aware of the tiefling's unsavory ancestry or not.

		Mine is Tiefling, normally bacause I enjoy messing aound with the whole "slowly being consumed by their infernal heritage" thing in a RP game.
		Also the deal with Tieflings and Aasimars is that they aren't a half-race, they aren't even a quarter-race..these creatures are actually very far removed from their angelic/demonic background, but really..no matter how many times it is diluted, they will always have this taint which gives them the attributes that they have.
		Also raised in the right environment a tiefling could be very proud of their heritage, and end up being a dark and evil but charismatic type, much like actual fiends can be.

		Tiefling captain is way better than the blade master.
		The blademaster is better for this warband since he improves their chance to hit, which is doubly important since it not only eliminates opponents but gives them the extra hp they need to survive as well, and the damage boost can also add up as well for 7 attackers.
		I would only consider the Tiefling Cpt now when I have fewer points left to fit in a commander (or in very special warband where your figs have multiple attacks as with the ettin thus increasing the chance for a crit).

		The reason is that dedicated spellcasters tend to value the key ability for their spellcasting significantly more than any ability score, to the point that some players may see an LA 0 race with a mental ability bonus to be a basically obligatory race for their casting character.
		As it stands now, the tiefling is probably balanced with the 3.5e dwarf on the strong end of LA 0.
		One of my houserules includes changing the ability mods of several races, and I have three races receiving a mental bonus-- for the Elf and Gnome, I feel this is balanced because their FC is a spellcaster with a different casting stat, and in the Half-Elf's case because they are weak, anyway.

		Actually the variants are just a table you can roll on to randomly generate powers for the tiefling rather than using the standerd ones (although they are on the chart as well) to reflect the various different things that could have put the taint into the blood line.
		If you wanted you could translate those 3rd ed tieflings back into 2nd ed (but that won't work with what you suggested that you'd have to make up as you went along.
		I had the impression they could be LG due to partially evil, partially chaotic blood, and I made a specification on size because I guess that between demons, devils and daemons at least some are of a smaller variety, either be them meaner or weaker).
