  Tikkana
Tikkana (1205-1288) was born into a family of Shaivite Brahmin litterateurs during the Golden Age of Kakatiya Empire.
Tikkana was the Prime Minister of Manumasidhdhi, the King of Nellore and a tributary of Kakatiya Empire.
Tikkana’s other literary contributions include Vijayasenamu, Kavivaagbandhamu, Krishnasatakamu, etc. Though he was second to Nannayya in attempting to translate Mahabharatamu and second poet among the Trinity of Poets, he is second to none in his political, religious and literary accomplishments.

 Mahabharata in Telugu Literature
Tikkana Somayaji resumed the work in the 13th century from Virata parva onwards and completed the Telugu version.
Not withstanding the general admiration for Nannaya who commenced the exercise, Tikkana who completed the work is ranked higher by the later poets and critics for his dramatic and more vigorous style and skill in characterisation.
Like the first poet, Nannaya's patron Raja Raja Narendra, Manumasiddhi was also at war with his cousins and on one occasion Tikkana had to lead a large embassy to the great Kakatiya Emperor, Ganapati Deva (1198-1262) at Warangal to seek his help in recovering the kingdom.

Famous poet Tikkana, the second in the `Kavitrayam' (Trinity of poets) who translated the Mahabharatam into Telugu over a period of several centuries, has used purely Telugu words for very difficult Sanskrit expressions and ideas in his work to make it more popular.
Eight centuries later, a similar kind of effort, though indifferent in context has begun in the home town of the great poet with officials in the district making a sincere effort to use Telugu language in all official transactions.
In the past, Tikkana made an effort to put a full stop to the practice of substituting Sanskrit words while translating the epic into Telugu.
